Hello I have a condo in BKK and I would like to buy house contents insurance to cover theft, damage and also flood (ie washing machine and sprinkler fault). Any advice as to who are the best companies to deal with for an expat?

Thanks Lite Beer do you or anyone know which companies are good to deal with or stay away from?

I am with QBE Insurance. Thai Visa Insurance said they were reputable when I asked a while ago. Nowadays, no offence 'Thai Visa', but your replies just seem to point people to the Thai Visa quote site. Certainly the question I asked about car insurance and had follow up questions never got revisited.

I understand you are looking for 'business', but certainly some insight and a bit more thought on the replies would be appreciated.

Ok - well I am with QBE insurance. Its an Australian based company. Large.

http://www.qbe.co.th/Insurance.html

I pay 7625 Baht a year for their 'Happy Home' cover. I dont get a no-claims bonus. The policy is easy to understand as they provide a 'plain english' document which simply explains the cover in detail.

This includes rebuilding the house in the event of fire etc... temporary accommodation, theft (10K baht per piece) etc... standard policy

The house is insured for 2,800,000 - which I was advised by the builder would be the cost to rebuild.

I have not yet made any claim I am glad to say - so cannot vouch for their reputation in this area.

If you do hear of any bad stories about them during your investigations - please post here and let me know :)

We agree QBE is a good company but rather expensive. Thai Visa can offer an "All Risks" policy, from the likes if AXA as an example, with a saving of 1,500 Baht from that premium ..............
