King's Cub Regatta - How To Watch, Where Etc

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I will be in Phuket during King's Cup Reggatta (early December) and would be very interested to watch several final races from the water (we will have a small motorboat).

If someone participated/watched regatta last years, please could you advise:

- what part of the coast it will take place (specifically on 4-5 December)

- where the race course/markers going to be, or what are the most interesting places to stay/watch

- what is standard daily schedule, start/finish times etc so we will position to the right places on time

I understand that regatta boats will be mainly based on Kata beach/bay.

- would I be able to drop the anchor and stay there overnight? or organisers will shove non-participant boats away from Kata?...

- what are the best parts of the evening programme/party/fireworks?

I did check regatta website but it has quite poor info for spectators so I have to reserve to informal advise, tips and hints.....

Many thanks a lot in advance

Hi Mate,

If you go to the website, and have a look at the NOR, wich is the Notice Of Race. This is the document that sets out the overview of the regatta, such as;

SCHEDULE

Saturday 28th November 2009

Registration & Measurement 10.00 – 16.00 (Kata Beach Resort)

Sunday 29th November 2009

Registration 10.00 – 16.00 (Kata Beach Resort)

Practise Race 13.00

Skippers Briefing 16.30

Monday 30th November – Saturday 5th December 2009

5 Days Racing + 1 Reserve Day

Maximum Number of Races per Class: 10

Saturday 5th December 2009

Royal Awards Ceremony 18.00 (Kata Beach Resort)

You will have to wait for the Sailing Instructions,

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The Sailing Instructions will be available at registration, which is held at

Race Headquarters, Kata Beach Resort from 10.00 on Saturday 28 November

which normally wont be published until a day or two before. There you will find detailed info on the courses, and the radio frequency you will need to monitor. The course for the day should be broadcast on this channel, or you will have to watch the start boat to see which course will be sailed that day.

The weather plays a big part as to which course is sailed, and therefor cannot be determined in advance.

If you email the guys there,

Racing Enquiries: [email protected]

I am sure they will be of great help. I hope this info helps you. I wish I was there as it is a great regatta, but busy with work here.
