I have not seen this topic discussed, and would appreciate peoples thoughts on the subject of air tickets for Thai ladies who have been granted a fiancee visa for the UK.

What requirements exist on arrival at a UK airport for holders of fiancee visas, if any? Is a return or onward ticket required, or does logic prevail in allowing that a fiancee may be coming to the UK to settle and so not wish to leave again any time soon?

Also can the UK partner buy two return tickets from London to Bangkok in the UK, and go to fetch his fiancee and return together with her on these tickets? (Obviously not using the outbound ticket for the fiancee.)

Searching for tickets online seems to prove that single tickets from the UK are often no cheaper than returns and can even, sometimes, be more expensive, and tickets originating from Thailand are considerably more expensive still, after airport taxes are added.

I hope to be needing this info in a few weeks after using an agency in Pattaya run by an ex Embassy man, and feeling cautiously hopeful of my fiancees success.

Many thanks for your thoughts.

As you say, she is coming to settle, so no return or onward ticket is needed.

However, any person entering the UK for a period of more than 6 months (and this includes a 6 month fiancée visa, as the intention is to settle) is liable to be sent to the medical centre for a medical exam and chest X-ray before being admitted to the UK. See this thread for more on this.

You could, but it would probably be cheaper to buy her a single ticket in Bangkok. Remember, you will both have to pay the departure tax at Don Muang, no matter where you bought the ticket.

Best of luck with the application. But please remember, using an agent can help you prepare and advise you on the application and what documents to produce, but no agent, even an "ex Embassy man" can guarantee you a visa!

If you don't use the outbound portion, there is a distinct possibility that the airline will assume that the return isn't going to be used. (especially if the plane is fully/over booked).

Definitely better to get a sinqle in Thailand.
