Could someone tell me if the hotel restaurants and bars in the resort are open to non-residents?

Also - bringing an 8-y-o to bangtao beach for a week over xmas - any recommendations for restaurants in the area that would be kid friendly?

yes but you would be daft to pay their prices, and all bars and restaurants in the area are kid friendly.

Bang Tao is very family friendly so don't worry, you have made a good choice of loction
