Hello Every1

My fiancee and i are planning to get married in june and she is currently on a Fiancee visa until 8th August.

Once we are married we will apply for a settlement visa but we are not sure how long it will take to get.

If we marry in june do you think we will have enough time to get the visa .

Thanks in advance..

Jonny,

Once you are married and have applied for the extention, the expiry date of the fiancé visa becomes irrelevant. Under the immigration laws the fiancé visa will be automatically extended until such a time as the application for the extention is decided. This only applies, however, if you make the application before the current visa expires, so make sure you do.

Cheers,

Scouse.

Be prepared this can take a long time.

We are still waiting for my wife’s visa, having sent our applications in on November 13th 2004!

Had we known this, we would have bitten the sour apple and travelled to our local immigration office (Liverpool) and paid the £250 pounds for a same-day settlement visa.

Instead we are paying £150 now, plus the waiting time (the inconvenience of being minus passports and birth certificates in the post 911 non-ID UK) and resulting psychological uncertainty.
