anyone been recently to this office for the subject extension based on marriage? I've called them but haven't had much luck as their english is not good (or, that my thai language skills are not good...you choose). Specifically want to know if they require a copy of the local amphur marriage register....wantin' to avoid a repeat trip...

thanks in advance...

sorry not been to that specific office, but heard it has been required at most immigration offices around. I use Nonthaburi and it was required.

oh, please help...

I just called the office in another attempt to clarify document requirements and the conversation went like this

tutsi: I am querying document requirements for a one year extension of stay using a non-imm. O visa based upon marriage.

officer: when does your visa expire?

tutsi: not until next year but I understand that the extension application can be made during the last 30 days of the most recent permission to stay per my arrival card date.

officer: please contact us during the last 30 days before your current visa expires...(click)

now...we all know that an application for an extension of stay can be made during the last 30 days of the present permission to stay per your passport stamp on entry to Thailand(referring specifically to non-imm. visa holders who get 90 days permission to stay on entry)...so, <deleted> IS THIS IDIOT TALKIN' ABOUT???!!!

I wouldn't get so excited but I transferred the required 400k to my thai baht account for this purpose and don't like having more baht than I need in that account...

so, the question is: has anyone applied for an extension of stay at this office more than 30 days before their non-immigrant visa expired, i.e., during the last 30 days of their permission to stay that started from their entry date stamped in their passport?

whew...de pain ob lebben...in Thailand :)

Expect you should have just said it expires (date your current permitted to stay stamp expires). That is almost surly what he was expecting. You should not have any problem during the last 30 days of any entry - but can't say I have done it. Good luck.

Can someone please clarify what a local Amphur certificate is? We have two papers from the registration. The decorative one that just states the basic facts and one that gives more details such as ID card number, DOB, signatures, witness names etc. Is this the local Amphur certificate. The form is called (in the translation I have) Khor Ror 2.

Form Kor Sor 2 shows the marriage details recorded in the register at the amphur, and believe this is what the Op was referring to. Most immigration offices are now asking for sight of this document when processing extension of stay applications based on marriage. You will also need to take with you the marriage certificate and a few other documents.

also, is it true that the marriage can be registered at any district office and not necessarily where the couple resides? seems like someone had a post to this effect somewhere...

where we live local administrators got a problem with unusual situations regarding falangs...the district transport office refuses to issue driving licenses to foreigners, for example...local bumpkins simply refusing to comply with the law in their confusion. Our marriage certificate was issued by the Thai embassy in Abu Dhabi (it's in both Thai and english) and that would probably put the local registrar over the edge...could maybe do it in Ayudthayya on the way to the immigration office as they got more falangs living there and are probably more aware... :)

just been and I post the following so that others can be informed...

arrived about 1145 just before lunch and presented all the docs to a kindly lady who reviewed them and advised that copies of the wife's ID card and my incoming airport immigration stamp were missing...also that the downloaded copy of the TM 7 application form was unacceptable; must be printed on both sides and she gave us two copies of their office version to fill out...

coulda sworn that I had the ID copies made and why to have the immigration stamp copies when the same stamp appears on the departure card for which we had copies?...but, OK...she was pleasant enough and said to come back after lunch...I said 'but otherwise you are happy?...all the other documents in order?' a nod and a smile...

no requirement for the khor sor 2, hurrah!

on return after lunch with the additional copies we were confronted with another officer although the lady we dealt with previously was present in the office...he arranged the two copies in neat piles and then proceeded to scrutinize each document at least twice...took about 40 minutes...

then upon checking the bank statement indicated that the last transaction and associated balance was only 58 rather than 60 days as required. I indicated that the document was issued the day before and that there had been no transactions between the last one and the date of the statement and would it not be reasonable to assume that the balance appearing on the last transaction would be the same as the balance on the day that the statement was issued? To support the contention I produced an ATM slip from a withdrawal that morning that had the balance as of that morning which he refused to look at...

nope...couldn't get his head around that one and insisted on a new statement that showed the balance on the 60th day of seasoning...I sighed; what's a falang to do?

so...that's it fer me with the extension process...I got 6 months left on my non-imm 'o' and I'll stick to visa runs from now on...at least you can be sure of the outcome...

I got a visa run comin' up soon and believe I'll take the opportunity to check out Phnom Penh for a few days...I hear that the cambos are friendly to westerners...could be that I'll extend my visit indefinitely :)

Just maybe, before your extension runs out there is a shift in the local office requirements and you can get the renewal extension for another year.

Perhaps Lopburi or someone can / will take a look in detail at your last post and put it in context, re the rights and wrongs and offer advice accordingly.

All the items mentioned are always required of everyone. Copy of wife ID card/signed; copy of last visa/entry/signed; copy of departure card/signed. 2 months in bank account for first application. TM.7 printed front/back of one A4 sheet.

Why not go back Friday for one more try - it really is easier than making visa runs and you will be set for the year.

I got no problems with the missing copies...my negligence...but I cannot accept that the officer had a problem with the bank statement; if there are no transactions between the last one (on the 58th day) and the date that the statement was issued (on the 60th day) then the balances must be the same...and the balance was comfortably over the 400k requirement...

I also had a problem with the dude scrutinizing every document when his colleague had just looked at them...I was suitably dressed and well behaved...my wife did most of the talking, his only acknowlegement of my presence was to wave me away when I tried to present the ATM slip to verify the balance as of that morning...

I'll be outta here with a new assignment within the next three months anyway and can now free up the 400k for other purposes...so, <deleted> 'em...don't need the aggravation...plus, someone said that they got good food in Phnom Penh :)

Have frequent slips these days - what my fingers type is often not what my mind is telling them to type. Don't know how many times I type "not" when only want "no". In this I typed "time" when wanted "times". Many I do catch on a review; but not all.

to update, we returned to the office at the urging of the wife (who conducted most of the business) with the updated bank statement and were accepted for the consideration period...has anyone ever had their extension application turned down after the documents have been accepted by the local immigration office? Just wonderin' as our marriage document was issued by the embassy in Abu Dhabi and I'll bet that the reviewer at the higher office has probably never seen one of them...

gonna go in next week to get the verdict... :)

Cool heads rule. I am sure they have seen Embassy issued marriage certificates at the Bangkok level. And it is very uncommon for a refusal as the local office has put there seal of approval on the application. About the only time that there have been issues reported here is when Bangkok made a check of account and found it lower than required. But have not seen any of those in last several years.

egad :) ...but the account balance only has to reflect the required amount or greater on the day of the application, don't it?...oh, please say yes as we've had some major expenses and the account is well below 400k at the moment :D

Previously it had to remain at the level until approved in Bangkok. But, as said, have not seen anyone post of a problem lately so they may well have removed that restriction now that they have the early two/three month requirement. Only if it has not been approved after the 30 days would I start to question that possibility.

thanks, lop...we'll see what they say later this week. There is a 'List of documents for extension Thai spouse visa' sheet that the Ayudtthaya office gives to the applicant and nothing is mentioned under the 400k deposit item regarding the post interview status of the balance. The 2 month seasoning requirement for the deposit is clearly spelled out.

Thinking about it, how could immigration verify the balance afterward without the applicant's knowledge/participation?

They are the P O L I C E? But I think there may have been a release sentence in the paperwork signed at office in years gone bye.

to update, just been and the one year extension is now in hand...we arrived after closing time (which is 1530hrs but they remain open for folks wantin' to do their 90 day report until 1630) and they graciously attended to the remaining formalities; stamps, 90 day notification slip, etc.

I had planned to get a re-entry permit but it was after closing time so not possible...however they said that they would arrange for me to apply at the Kanchanaburi office for this purpose which was quite nice of them (either that or tired of looking at my ugly falang mug)...much nicer drive in that direction from our house in Suphan and an excuse for an over-nighter to check the place out...

altogether not too bad applying for an extension at this office compared to reports on the forum for other local immigration offices...the staff work within their constraints which is understandable...my only complaint is with the limited telephone communication ability to clarify document requirements like the amphur marriage registry copy (not required in our case as we have a 'Certificate of the Registration of Marriage' from a Thai embassy, see previous post)...

many thanks to all for your input... :)
