Before everyone starts dissing me off... :o I really do like London. I have been studying here for the last 4 years and really enjoy studying here and the life here. Although I only work part-time and don't earn a lot. I find that I can do so much more over here without much hassle.

Having read through some of your posts, I know its mostly about having thai wifes and gf etc... and visa issues... I did not really know where to post this.

Anyway knowing that some of you are quite knowledgeble in this area especially scousser, maybe you can help me out or give me some suggestions.

I don't think I wanna get married with an english man randomly or a british national randomly.. I strongly believe in Love and everything nice about it. And English man does scare me lots... their endless drinking and endless flings..

I have tried applying for jobs and graduate work but unfortunately none are sponsoring for work permit.. they are not ready for any of these hssle... and especially when I only got a 2:2 which doesn't help much..

Oh dear... my visa runs out in August and would like to know if there was any way I could stay on indefintely... anyway at all in the UK. ....

All suggestions welcome..

Very difficult, I'm afraid, Poochi to stay there legally without marriage or a 'bogus' asylum application - most definitely not recommended. Unless you can find work in certain limited categories where the UK is short of skilled employees (trained + qualified nurses being one area), your potential employer would have to show, in order to get you a work permit, that you had skills that were not readily available from applicants in the UK or in the European Union (EU). I don't know what degree you've got, but imagine that this would prove quite difficult unless you could find a job translating English to Thai or vice versa.

The other way, if you had money/contacts back in Thailand would be for you to apply for a visa as a sole representative of an overseas company. But this isn't very straightforward, you have to find a bona fide company overseas, with full paperwork, to sponsor you as its only representative in the UK.

This site has a list of various schemes available for those wishing to come to the UK and work

You haven't told us what you are studying. Is it an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree you are doing? In what area?

I am on the highly skilled migrant permit. But I got that based on my work experience and income that I earnt in Thailand. If you are in a proffessional area, it might pay for you to come back to Thailand for a bit, get some expereince, and then go back to the UK on a visa like the HSMP.

Poochi,

Unfortunately, just wanting to stay is not a good enough reason to be given permission to remain in the UK indefinitely. You should consider what you would want to do and then apply for permission in that capacity. However, on the assumption that you are Thai and currently have a student visa, you would not be allowed to change the category of your stay whilst in the UK; you would have to return to Thailand and seek a visa for your new purpose.

Cheers,

Scouse.

Thanks all for feedback, this is so upsetting...anyway...I wanted to ask somemore.. how long before I can apply for ILR? I am thinking of jst continuing my stdies for as long as it takes for me to be able to apply for ILR.. I thoght ifI did a MBA then a PHd it should take abot another 5 years in which I wouldhave stayed here for at least 8 years... thoughts on doing this please??

Thanks again..

I studied business and have had work as admin and PA for a while.. don't think can qalify for HSMV... :o

so so sad... no one got no more ideas... I wish to stay to work and be able to travel at the same time...

Poochi,

It used to be the case that you could qualify for ILR after having been a student for 10 years. However, I believe this has now been stopped as half of Nigeria was benefitting from this concession, claiming to have studied at Chief Abiola's School of Fraud and Cheating with a PhD in how to rip off the Britsh banking system.

Actually when I read the first post I thought it was a troll having a go at those who believe it is their right to stay in Thailand as long as they want.

The english is quite good and you could substitute England/London with Bangkok/Thailand....even the "And English man does scare me lots... their endless drinking and endless flings" could be substituted with the cunning TGs we read about on this forum so often.

But maybe I was wrong.

I know many Thai's here in London who speak better English than most of us here on the board.

I just returned from 2 months in London and Ireland, where my parents live now. I missed my kids and wife in Thailand first, but I really missed good thai food in thailand. And thai manners too. I am glad to be back home :D

I could never go back to English weather :o

their endless drinking and endless flings..

I know, sometimes its hard for me to find time to visit the lavatory, with all the drinking and flings.

...but why don't you look for a marriage of convenience.

There are lots of gay guys in London who would like to have an O visa for Thailand - they love this place.

Advertise - find some willing participant, then make sure you marry in the right place to fix his and your visa properly.

(...and before you wiseguys start jeering - I am one hundred per cent manly hetero)

it's funny how we are all never satisfied with what we have! Thanks for all the 'advise' and suggestions, I guess it sure looks like I gotta find myself a gay man to marry me!! oh dear, I doubt I can do that, heard too many stories about all these bogus marriage and wouldn't consider jeopardising my future really. Call me old fashion but it will be rather nice to find just that one person and settle down and not for the sake of his/her passport.

I have decided, if I can't stay on then maybe it wasn't meant to be and I will go home. I mean I love home and all just love the idea of London, travelling is so easy, food isnt as good as home for sure but I got lot more variety, like greek, turkish, mediterenien food etc... it's the mixture. I guess I gotta go with fate, but I am not gonna give up without searching for other alternatives, so if anyone still got any bright ideas and suggestions, :D or maybe a fairly good looking, good natured, 'perfect' man, brother, friend to intro to me, :D:o that'll do! ahahhaa

have a good one everyone and thanks again!

Poochi - remember it doesn't have to be the UK, being allowed to reside anywhere in the EU is enough. I think? There's been a lot of changes recently... Er, sorry for wishy-washy advice... but might give you a lead.

Poochi, if your student visa was for more than 6 months, and has at least 3 months left to run, then it is possible to marry in the UK and convert it to a settlement visa.

However, I would strongly advise against any sort of marriage of convenience! If you embark along this road and are caught, then the chances of you ever being granted another UK visa are zero.

Thanks for your advice, I would notconsider any scam marriage so that option really is out. Thanks anyway.
