Hi,

I'm thinking of going to Vientiane,Laos to get an O-visa.

Does my wife need a visa if she wants to join me?

And whats the best way to go? Fly to Udon Thani and get a bus/taxi?

Unless someone knows of a change do not believe any visa agreement with Laos until next year. Fly to Vientiane airport where you both can have visa on arrival. Need to fill in form, have photos and passport, plus fee.

I have heard Laos much more stringent on visa issue. Make sure you comply with all the regs.

Ooops.. "stringent", "all the regs" What are they?

Have proof of marriage, birth certificate of our baby and proof of income.

Is there anything else needed?

We were thinking of going to Udon Thani and go to the border from there.

I assumed we could get visas on arrival there.

Has anybody here done that? How do I get to the border from Udon Thani?

Best,

Well I was there on Mar 31. Went to the border, paid about 200B for my wife, who is a Thai, finished.

I had to pay more for myself, but not a problem, my wife just sailed through.

Just a point, Thai's tend to get the "Farang" price in Laos. Also change your money at a bank, the exchange rate should be about 250 kip to 1 baht. Street exchangers will rip you off.

Don't forget you have to stay overnight in Laos for a visa.

Thx Mattnich.

I'll be staying 3-4 days so i guess im ok on the visa.

Someone told me Thai Baht was good in Laos.

Are there buses from Udon Thani or is a taxi the good option.

How much, how long?

You are welcome

Yes it is, but the vendors set their own exchange rates. So you need to be careful. Also not all businesses accept Baht.

No Idea sorry, on the 2 occasions I want there, I drove my own private car.

Good Luck

Am interested. How easy was it to take your car over? What papers did you need insurance wise and other wise? Was a Thai drivers license sufficient?

Thanks in advance.
