Just noticed that a member who joined today with 9 posts has his status for groups as "validating" as opposed to another guy who has 6 posts and joined a few days ago whose status is "members".

I know its trivial but whats the difference?

a user is in that group when first joining. also a member is in the validating group while changing their email address registered with thaivisa.
