Asean-free Tax And Beer

Featured Replies

I got told with 1st Jan there is no import tax on beer in the ASEAN anymore.

That would make import beer cheap.

Anyone saw promotions? Anyone say some beers in the supermarket already?

"Anyone say some beers "

I didn't say any beers.

id like to know which items are tax free aside from booze.

90% of all trade between the founding ASEAN countries, according to the BBC, is now tax free.

Couple of other countries (Vietnam?) are joining the group later.

But no import tax means still VAT and customs clearing or??

Not like in the european union where you can send without borders.

I heard that the free trade agreement between ASEAN countries has been postponed until 2011. Can anyone verify this? :)

There was an article in the Bangkok Post today that implied there were some tariff mechanisms that countries could still do under the Treaty to limit import competition. It's really hard to figure out what's what without some good journalism in English.
