Uk Settlement Visa Whilst In Uk

Featured Replies

Any advice/comments on converting my wifes visitors visa to a settlement visa whilst we are in the UK or do we have to come back to Thailand?

We came over to the UK on a 6 months visitors visa with no intention of staying, however I've taken a job over here and now we are planning to stay here for a few years (atleast).

We will be back over in Thailand sometime in the near future but that would be just on a short trip to tidy up the loose ends we've left behind, sell the car, etc.

I'm concerned as when we applied for her visitors visa the notices at the Embassy said there as up to a 13 week waiting period for settlement visas.

Cheers

Fish&Chips,

I'm afraid you're buggered in terms of converting visit conditions to settlement. You're wife will have to apply for another visa at the embassy in Bangkok. However, you can apply by post from the UK, asking for an interview date for a time when you know you'll be back in Thailand. As long as your request is for a date after the current waiting list then there's no problem doing this.

As they say in Thailand "Can Not!"

At the end of the day, this is what tighter border controls mean!

Kind of thought it was a long shot but you never know until you ask.

Good to know that I can arrange the interview by post.

Is there any advantage of using one the visa services to do this?

After living over there for a number of years I found that it was just a easy and sometimes less problematic to go it alone but as I'll be needing a quick turnaround on the visa I'd be prepared to fork out the cash if it was going to be worth while.

Thanks

Hi Fish&Chips,

I, personally, don't see the advantage in going through an agency. Certainly, it won't speed up the process. If you wish to have professional advice then make sure it is just that - professional; very few advisors in Thailand are.
