Anyone Know About Royal Saladaeng Apartments?

Featured Replies

Hello all. Moving to BKK with new job this spring and company is putting me up in Royal Saladaeng Apartments. I can't seem to find much info as to what's nearby or info about the area/neighborhood. Anyone got any info? Thanks!

Royal Sala Daeng is (not surprisingly!) on Sala Daeng. I'd say it is about five minutes walk to Saladaeng BTS on Silom. I used to live nearby (at Siri Sathorn) when it was being built so it is only 3 or 4 years old. Excellent area to live, lot's of good entertainment, western pubs etc. and Patpong too if that's your scene (it's a dump). Quite touristy there but right in the financial district so lots of places to socialise all day long. I liked it over there (I live off Sukhumvit now) and I think you will too. Don't try to get a taxi at night on Silom near Patpong, they won't run the meter. Get one on a sidestreet - Thanon Convent is favorite and Saladaeng is OK too but less traffic. Good pubs over there are O'Reilly's, Molly Malones, Barbican and The Duke of Wellington. If you go down Silom towards the river there is also a good Irish style bar at the base of the Holiday Inn (about a one mile stroll). Too many good restaurants to mention, but it's fun to just try them out. I like Ban Chiang - walk past the aforementioned Holiday Inn, turn left and walk about 200 yards. You can't miss it. Good food and great ambiance. And you can have a pint in the pub on the way! And on the way home too!

Thanks guys. Moving with the family so Patpong will be for visiting single friends. Looking forward to the move. Saw the BTS station but unsure how long the walk would be. If it's 5 to 10 min to the BTS then Lumphini looks about the same distance.

No, Lumphini is definitely further and don't forget Lumphini is MRT not BTS so you need to change to get onto the BTS. Also not sure there is an access to Lumphini on that side of the very busy junction (I could be wrong) so you'd have two busy roads to cross - one does not have a pedestrian overpass either. When I lived there I always used the BTS. In fact, Silom MRT is closer than Lumphini if you want MRT. All good info I know but have fun exploring yourself; that's part of the adventure. One very good pont about your location is you are a short walk from Lumphini Park (walk down Saladaeng Soi 1 and cross Rama 4 using the overpass). I used to go into the park with a bag of fruit and sit by the lake on many an afternoon. Very tranquil and some enterprising Thai will be on hand to rent you a mat to sit on. Good to take the family too. BTW, I just remembered there is a Jim Thomson restaurant on Saladaeng Soi 1 which is very nice and very inexpensive. Good place to go if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Silom.

yes, from the ROYAL SALADAENG condos, its only a 5-10 minute walk to either the SALADAENG BTS skytrain station or the SILOM MRT subway station.....Patpong is probably a 15 minute walk....[[dont walk to the LUMPINI MRT subway station from the ROYAL SALADAENG..that would entail crossing a large busy boulevard (Sathorn) on foot which is dangerous]]]]....
