I'm Belgian and i'm going to marry on the 5th of april with a Thai lady in Thailand.

I would like to apply for a permanent visa after.

I've been to the immigration office in Bangkok before, but i think i need to have more information when i go this time.

What papers i need and what is the name of the visa?

I have an ED visa now.

Kind regards Robby

Always - perm thai residency and/or citizenship. Heaps of hoops to jump through and I think least 10+ yrs in country for starters w/fluent language abilities.

Brit....Permanent residency....is not a visa, which is what the OP was taking about, I am guessing that the OP is thinking that on marrying a Thai national he is granted permanent stay in Thailand based purely on the fact he is married to a Thai national and no other criteria

In Thailand think TEMPORARY at all times and you won't get disappointed with the reality. Doesn't mean you can't have fun.

Fluent in Thais is not demanded. Good speaking and understanding is enough. No-one asks you to write and read things in Thai. And 10 years ? I think it is 3 or 5 years with a ret of mar visa. There is an item in this chapter about permanent residency.

But is marriage a condition ? No singles ?

I think about getting the residence permit. But becoming Thai national is for a Dutchman only an option when he is married to a Thai national. Otherwise he/she will lose Dutch nationality.

You do not need to be married to a Thai national to get PR, but you do need to have been paying tax here for at least 3 years to start the process plus other criteria

If you where born in Holland they cannot take your nationality....they may prevent you having dual nationality, but they cannot take your birth right away from you...

Prajak is right. Under Dutch nationality law you lose your Durch nationality when you acquire another nationality out of your free will, unless you take on the nationality of your spouse.

(This dos not apply to people who are born with dual nationality).

Ok...accept that, but if you decide at anytime you want your Dutch nationality back, you just revoke the other nationality ???....ie they cant deny your birth right surely ??
