Hello,

1/ my husband is canadian and we got married, we are in malaysia.

i have to get him visa run, and i'm thinking of hat yai by land.

question is, if we do visa run by land, will the number of days allowed for the visitors visa still same as if we travel by air?

2/ since we will be quite frequent to hat yai, wonder if we can rent a small apartment, maybe around THB2500 - THB3000 a month.

any recommendations?

if rented, we will come by maybe every other weekend because i want to pray.

can help me? who can give advise?

thank you!

if he enters by land he will only get 14 days.

there are quite a few apartments in this pr4ice range. One is opposite Carrefour a bit up the small road.Another one very near to the Bangkok Hadyai Hospital as far as I remember they had a swimming pool. One more about 100 meters after the railway bridge on the same side as the immigration. There are more.Drive around.

how about when we return to malaysia?

is he going to get the normal 90 days entry that we usually get by air from anywhere back to malaysia? will you know?

It is not clear what your nationality is or why your husband would be making visa runs to Thailand if living in Malaysia. Is the object to obtain a new entry for Malaysia? They why would you want an apartment in Hat Yai?

This forum is for obtaining Thai visas but it seems you may not be asking that.

my husband is canadian.

and every 90 days we need to give him visa run to stay in malaysia, our last trip was to bangkok.

by air, it is ok, we got 90 days, but our next trip we want to go hatyai.

not sure if still 90 days by land.

if it is 90 days by land, i am thinking of renting a place permanently in hatyai. then we can come back anytime during any weekend, not only for visa run.

any advice?

if i am in the wrong forum and not much able to help here, please let me know then i will leave. thank you

Your question is really about visa to other countries but we can try to answer here. The rule will be up to Malaysian Immigration but normal entry would be 90 days regardless of method of entry (unless they have very recently changed - you should call them and ask). To Thailand he will get 15 days as that is Thai policy. If you are Malaysian you will get 30 days as it is an exception for Malaysia.

Normally hotel price in Hat Yai is very low but if travel going to be on weekends (when many cross to shop and hotels may fill up) your plan to rent may be a good idea.

I cross that border regularly, he'll get 90 days. As for renting in Hat Yai, yes there are apartments readily available, but for the number of trips you make annually surely staying in hotel accommodation would be cheaper.

I've entered Malaysia lots of times by land from Thailand and Singapore, and by air from other countries in the region. I have have never been issued anything other than a 90 day entry.

I've been staying in Penang for about six months per year, I've never had to do a visa run because of excursions I'd take during my stay. But I know people who have merely gone up to Sadao, get stamped into Thailand, then immediately go right back in to Malaysia and get another 90 days. I have been curious as to how often one can do this before they caution you.
