The instructions on the back of my box of Bisto are:

Easy saucepan gravy

Blend 1 1/2 tbsp of Bisto with 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring continuously. Reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes. stirring occasionally. serves 4

Quick microwave gravy

Blend 1 1/2 tbsp with sufficient water from 1 cup to make a smooth paste. Place remaining water in a large microwave sqfe jug and heat for 2 minutes on high. Whisk in Bisto paste. Microwave on high for 90 seconds and let stand for 2 minutes before serving. Serves 4

The meat juices and fat etc are only to "add" to the thickness and taste of the gravy to make it better . . . you don't have to make it like that if you can't . . . just add the water amount it tells you and the amount of powder it tells you. Mix. Pour. Enjoy. Simple.

Thanks , trust me to think you needed the juices and fat to make it work :) , so I could just fry some onions and add them to the mix

Onions work. Also, if you mix in some beef stock, it will taste a lot better. :)

I have always found the 'original" Bisto powder rather tastless, unless you have meat juices. The Bisto granules have a bit more flavour but still nothing special and if you use too much its very salty. If youre stuck with the original then a beef stock cube or a spoonful of marmite(0r Vegimite if your from Ausiland will help.
