Electronics Repair Shop In Tukcom Basement

I've got a simple loose-power-connection problem on PC

(simple but I can't fic it myself)

I'm about to take it into the basement shop in Tukcom advertised on the TV recently.

(I've been ripped off before on a mobile phone repair elsewhere in Tukcom so I'm not keen on the place)

Anyone used that basement place for repairs before? or know any reliable non-ripp-off joints?

cheers to all on here

LL

They seem to be quite capable (although 1 fuji camera wasnt worth fixing as their costs were too high) Some things they send away to bangkok.

If your power supply is faulty on your PC i would suggest you simply buy a new power supply. They are dirt cheap and you can even upgrade the wattage power so as to have a more stable system. They are only 4 screws attaching it to your case and all the sockets are simple plug in-out types. EASY!!!

Intermittent faults are not easy to find so probably anyone looking at it will just assume it is the power supply.

Power supplies are self protecting so will shut down if overloaded or overheat but the cause could be a combination of many things:

  • The Power supply
  • you have added peripheral that draw power from the PC
  • the ambient air temperature is to high and is unable to cool enough.
  • dust obstructing cooling air flow
  • a fault on the mother board
  • a fault on any of the sub boards, hard drives or CD/DVD drives, etc.
  • a fault on any peripheral device including USB devices.
  • software bugs (if it is software next time you start up you may get a saying your PC "un-expectantly shut-down")

As stated best bet is to change the power supply, best to up the power by 50W ore more especially if you are running a lot of add-on devices or air temperature is high.

Could also look at the BIOS on start up, some BIOS system have diagnostics incorporated.

I've used Amorn a few times and always been pleased with their work. Once they called me back and told me it would be quite expensive to fix an item I had handed in. That time I canceled the job, otherwise good work and decent pricing.

Before Tukcom opened up in Pattaya, I used the Amorn shop at Tukcom Sriracha with the very similar service and pricing.

For PC repairs, how would you choose between Amorn in the basement and one of the repair shops on the third floor like, say, Wattana? Is one better than the other, or cheaper, or what?

Amorn isn't really a PC repair shop. They are hardware generalists, able to repair fans, microwaves, stereos, whatever. You want your battery changed in your UPS, go to Amorn.

Amorn can easily change a power supply as anybody can do that. However, they'd use a cheap generic power supply, Thai style. A good PC shop would suggest higher quality, and you'd best take that advice.

For something more complicated--like suppose the problem really isn't the PSU--a PC shop such as Wattana would be better, being specialists. PC shops have a complete range of PC parts and some knowledge of software.

I might mention that a few years ago Amorn PTY ran me around for months trying to fix an LCD monitor. But I give them credit for persistence anyway. I'd found the Sriricha branch better, but maybe that's changed.

Thanks. I've got an old PC with a clapped out C: drive. I've got a spare hard drive but need to get XP and the hardware drivers installed on it. Then I'll give it to a Thai friend whose PC has died. Sounds like it's best to go to the 3rd floor of TukCom to get it done, definitely not a job for Amorn.

Many thanks for the replies

I'm going to have a go at changing the power supply myself (cheers coolie33 and Basil :D

when I knackered it, I'll take it into that place. :)

Thanks again LL

remember to wear an ESD wrist strap before poking around the inside of the case..otherwise you can fry delicate pc components with your own static charge...I was laughed at by the tukom technician when I made him wear one...my PC is worth about a grand and I need it for work....he didn't manage to work out what was wrong with it!!  In the end I had to fix it myself...which I did.

I have used it twice It is expensive relative to small owner shops

Also I went there to order a part for a DVD Recorder My local elctronic guy had assessed the problem and the repair guys refused to order for me even though they were the assigned agent for the make of recorder. They insisted that they wanted to make their own assessment of the problem so they could inevitably jack up the charge. The attitude of the guys was also not that friendly. Stay away I suggest

A local guy in residential area is likely to be as skilled and if you need spare part find address in Bangkok and go and buy

Your problem doesn't sound that complex

Crappy power supplies are dirt cheap. If you value your PC, don't use one of those.

A good PSU will protect your system. A crappy PSU causes mysterious problems, doesn't last long, and if it blows it it can take the mainboard and drives with it. Friend of mine's been through 3 PCs 'cause he's just too cheap to buy a good PSU.

A good PSU will cost a minimum of 1500 baht. Enermax, Thermaltake, Coolermaster, PC Power & Cooling, Antec, and Silverstone are well-respected brands. However, some shops only sell only high-wattage models that the average non-gamer doesn't need.

Right now good value is to be had in the Silverstone line. You can find them at Hardware House and other better shops.

Here's a link to the pricelist at Hardware House:

This shop has the propensity to "fix" what you simply requested an estimate for, and subsequently charging an arm and a leg. This was three years ago and I haven't been back. I can't attest to their current practices.

For PC repairs, use Watthana on Pattaya Klang; they're miracle workers.
