Is it normal to negotiate hard for car insurance

Seems a bit odd but not surprising

I just want to know if in a car crash I have some protection that will fix my car and cover medical expenses

is there not a large ligitimate insurance company that is resonable priced I would not have to "bargain hard" for? thank you

Car insurance covers your car not you for medical expenses.

You need health insurance for medical expenses or travel insurance from your home country.

The insurance i have covers the car and also the 200000 baht bail money needed if someone is hurt in a accident.

Its called first class insurance here other country's comprehensive insurance

Personally I have used Safety Insurance for some years and have received excellent service after two accidents.

Basic medical expenses up to 15,000 baht are covered under the compulsory insurance in the event of injury following an accident. 1st class insurance medical amounts will vary from company to company.

You shouldn't have to barter for insurance quotes; the prices are fixed by the companies and like anywhere else in the world cover and price varies.

Get a broker to do the donkey work for you. I know a very good English speaking one. PM me if you want any more info.

Compulsory insurance or third party insurance as i understand it does not cover the driver only the passengers.

15000 baht would not go very far if a person was seriously injured and went to a private hospital.

I checked my insurance policy it does have the amounts of 1 2.5 and 10 million baht on it , being written in Thai

i am not sure what these amounts are for. It could be public liability.

Things are different here, i am used to having a motor vehicle insurance policy in my name with a nominated

vehicle and when you change vehicles you notify the insurance and they switch the policy to your new vehicle,

you keep your no claim bonus, i was on 60%.

Here the insurance policy stops with the vehicle and if you buy a new vehicle you take out a new insurance

and start from scratch and lose your no claim bonus as explained to me by a broker.

Before renewing my insurance i check prices and the broker i use will match the price or better it and he

represents a reputable insurance company.
