Exactly Where Is "rajprasong Intersection" ?

Featured Replies

I googled rajprasong and "rajprasong intersektion", but did not get much useful information.

Could it be the Phetchaburi street and Phaya Thai Street crossroads ?

Nope - Rama 1 and Phaya Thai insection.

It's the intersection where the Erawan Shrine is located.

Thanks, that's definitely the place to go if you want to cause trouble.

Nope again - it s the Rama I and Rajdamri (Rachadamri) intersection.

On it s corners are Gaysorn Plaza , Central World, Police Hospital and

Erawan Shrine.

Or at least watch what's happening. I'm in the neighborhood every day and, although there's been a lot of noise (voices and music) the past couple days, I didn't hear any anger. Rather than "an attempt to overthrow the government and assassinate the PM", it's more of a party.

The funny thing, during New Year's Eve, the intersection and surrounding areas will have a quarter million people partying. All of the streets will be closed...but not one mention of "chaos".

You didn't originally know where Rajprasong was but reckoned there was trouble there - sorry being for frank, but this is typical of an armchair travel critic.

I been in the area lots of the past few days and seen no trouble - the protests are very peaceful. Many of the shops now open as before.

I was planning a trip from Pattaya to Pantip Plaza tomorrow(Friday) to get some computer bits and pieces. I usually get on the BTS at On Nut, then get off at Chitlom BTS and walk down - is that going to be a problem do you think??? I dont mind the crowds, but I dont really fancy getting involved in violent protests. Any advice would be appreciated...

You are likely to walk through a bunch of protesters - don't worry, they won't bite. If I were you, I'd take the train all the way to Ratchathewi.

Good idea - and with the weather getting hotter - its less of a walk as well.

If you are worried, take the BTS to Ratchatewi, (just past Siam), then walk toward Phetburi and up to Pantip, it's a shorter walk this way in any case then walking from Chidlom.

I did just that - amongst all the protesters who had turned the whole event into a massive street party. I even bought a 'red shirt' for my Thai wife - I am sure she will appreciate that... whilst I was there - 12 until 3 pm - it was very hot, but very friendly. Lets hope it stays that way...

Glad you thought so too. I said that in another thread and got shredded by an old retainer (who lives 130k from the action I think) as having a twisted view of what a party was. This situation sure is creating fever amongst certain elements of TV.

Did the same today but by car - no problems with driving along New Petchaburi and parking at Panthip, but take the temperature of what police actions are going on from TV before you go. If the Government is foolish enough to move in on a massive street party the whole area will need to be avoided.
