Suvarnabhumi Airport to celebrate Songkran 2010

BANGKOK (NNT) -- The Suvarnabhumi International Airport will arrange a Songkran celebrative event at the airport in order to show and present Thai traditions and cultures to foreign passengers during the upcoming 2010 Songkran Festival.

According to Suvarnabhumi Airport General Manager, Nirandra Theeranartsin, the event will be organized with an aim to give special welcome to a lot of foreign tourists expected to visit Thailand during the water-splashing festival this year.

In conjunction with the festival, the decorations on the second and fourth floors of the passenger terminal will be more colorful while a space will be arranged for passengers to pour jasmine-scented water onto an installed Buddha image in accordance with the Thai tradition, for good luck.

The event will also include cultural corners showing passengers how to make scented water, floral garland, and perfumed powder. Passengers can also try and keep those finished products as souvenirs.

Mr Nirandra continued to say that all officials in the airport are also urged to dress in Thai traditional dress to catch impression from passengers. The celebration will be organized inside the airport from 6 to 30 April 2010.

In addition, 35,000 Buddha amulets will be distributed for free at the sixth exit on the fourth floor of the terminal from 9 to 19 April 2010. The amulets are prepared by the Ministry of Transport as a token of safe journey for holders.

The Thai traditional New Year or Songkran Festival will take place from 13 to 15 April every year in the kingdom.
