THAI begins Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang flights

Thai Airways (THAI) will launch a new flight schedule from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang in Laos, "to meet the economic and tourism growth on northern Thailand," a press release by Thai Airways International Negara Brunei Darussalam stated yesterday.

The new schedule, set for a November 20 launch, is part of the Thai carrier's winter programme.

Chiang Mai has the potential and readiness in the areas of air transport and tourism, said THAI president, Kanok Abhiradee.

The city also serves as north Thailand's centre for "trade, investment, medicine, education and tourism."

Luang Prabang, meanwhile, is "the most important city located north of Laos," and is a well-known tourist destination, with cultural and architectural "wonders and other attractions."

The Chiang Mai-Luang Prabang schedule will go on three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departing Chiang Mai at 8.20 am and arriving at its destination at 9.30 am.

The return flight will leave Luang Prabang at 10 am and should arrive back in Chiang Mai at 11.15 am.
