Sriracha Tiger Zoo

Went to Sriracha Tiger Zoo on Monday with GF her mum and daughter.

This was not my choice as the other Zoo at Sriracha seemed a lot more "ethical", but got out voted.

We went to all the shows and during the Tiger show one of the tigers on a stool wend down on his front legs, then raised his tail, then his rear end, and sprayed 3-4 rows of audience behind him. :)

So be warned if you do go sit back at least 5 rows.

Cats do this if they want to mark or own something, so I guess this takes on a whole new meaning of getting 'owned' by a tiger, if you understand the pun!! :)

There are numerous zoos like this in Thailand and probably also in Cambodia and Laos too. I know of one near Ubon Ratchathani, miles from anywhere, that has over a hundred tigers. Now no zoo in the back of beyond needs 100 tigers. All of these establishments, Sri Racha included, are basically tiger farms. The animals are raised on cheap meat from old and sick animals, butchered, and their parts sold to China.

There may be some long term benefit to the ultimate survival of tigers as a species, given that they are now a commercially valuable commodity and there are now more tigers in captivity than living in the wild. However, to the best of my knowledge, all international trade in tiger parts remains illegal under CITES. Certainly a lot more illegal than a few fake handbags in Pattaya. Seeing such a magnificent predator caged and farmed for "traditional medicine" or for some idiot who hasn't heard of viagra is a sad, sad thing.

The reason that tiger cubs are suckled on pigs is simple. It's not to provide an amusing sideshow. Tigresses normally produce a litter every two to three years. If you take the cubs away and suckle them on a pig the tigress will come back into oestrus, producing one litter every year. And when she's worn out she'll end up as a hide and some tiger bone wine too.

Actually it should not be called a Zoo, it's really a Circus. :)

With animals trained to do unnatural things.

never happened or happens in europe or the rest of the world then?

and zoo´s are any better?

Ha ,Ha glad the tiger got one back .That zoo gave me the creps .The open air zoo near by is much better .

Khao Kheow open zoo is very good, went with my family today, beautiful surrounding and off course many different animals. You can actually drive your car inside and stop at designated parking lots in the whole park. The "fly with the Gibbons" is there as well but we gave it a miss due to my 6 month old son. 100 bath pr person if you have Thai driver licence otherwise 300 tb.

We will go again next year for sure :)

^ The "Flight of the gibbons" sounds interesting but their website quotes 2,300 baht per person. This includes transport and entry to Khao Khoew, but still... Can you just walk in there and do the hang gliding? What's the (Thai) price for that?

Sounds like a tourist package deal to me. Next time we go, I will stop and ask flashing my Thai drivers licences :) . Pretty sure you just walk in and do the hang gliding.

I attended Sri Racha Tiger Zoo a few years ago and was surprised how runned down and grimy the place looked. The "park" looked like it was on its last leg... The owners must pocket most of the profits and not put any money back into maintaining the place or improving it. (sounds familiar?) There are plent of package tours that go there daily so there is no excuse. AVOID IT

This zoo is brilliant and good value, with driving license as proof to get thai prices.

The only problem i had was that i nearly got attacked by one of them monkies roaming about. The bloody thing came at me so i swung my foot out o kick it,protecting my stepson, missed and tore my hamstring,i was in agony and couldnt hardly walk lol.

  • 1 year later...

In most civilised counties the trend is towards banning places that make animals do tricks. Even in China.

There is no excuse for running such a place or frequenting one. Anyone who does either doesn't even merit being called human.

That zoo gave me the creps .

Speak for yourself, I found it creepy.

Any were in the western world it would have been closed down.

If there were anyplace like it in the West, I'm sure there are places where it would be allowed to run.

surprised how runned down and grimy the place looked.

Is that in worse shape that being run down ?

There are plent of package tours that go there daily

Yeah, those plents sure do get around...

i nearly got attacked by one of them monkies roaming about.

There were tiny monks roaming around set to attack people ?

When I was there it was mostly monkeys, no monkies

i was in agony and couldnt hardly walk lol.

That must mean you could not walk, even hardly.

In civilized counties ? What about the provinces ?

I don't go to the zoos because of their multi-tier pricing. It's despicable.

What is entertaining about watching such cruel artifice as an ageing mongrel, an aggressive tiger cub and a medium-sized piglet battling for dominance in a small enclosure? How entertaining is it to see baby piglets wearing tiger waistcoats suckling from a lactating tigress? This place was shut down a few years ago because it was breeding tigers for their body parts to supply to the Chinese market :bah: .

As far as I am concerned the zoo should be closed. The last time I was there (three years ago) I was surprised how poorly maintained it was. As much money the place rakes in, you would think the owners would modernized it a bit and keep the "tiger cages" from falling apart.

They've been doing it up since then and still seem to be working on parts of it.

The place is a disgrace ...it should get the same publicity as the Jet Ski Scams.....Thailand has ample opportunity to have wonderful tourist attractions...BUT and its a BIG BUT.......money governs all.

I have posted on here before about the "birdless skies" the animal free jungles" and the last scam I fell for was the fake waterfalls...

I ventured where no Thai or foreign tourist was supposed to wander in the former " rubber plantation" now a national park (joke) and saw the 6 inch diameter Blue Plastic pipe that carries the water to the top of the hill to feed water into a dried up river bed. Pathetic !!! and you have to pay to go and see it....

Sri Ratcha should be closed along with that other nonsense with the Monks and the tigers....drugged to the eyeballs...sad, sad sad.
