Yesterday I applied for a re-entry permit. The procedure has changed. First you have to go the information desk near the entrance where you will get a number. (8..) for re-entry visa. If your number is called you proceed to the counter. Very quick, it took only about 30 seconds. To get the re-entry permit I had to wait exactly another 16 minutes. Very speedy and good service. (Afternoon)

Yes, all applications are now dealt with on the ground floor: initially, you go to the information desk where they look at your paperwork and give you a number for a different section: 2 for extensions of non-imm visas, 4 or 5 for extensions of tourist visas, 6 for 90-day reporting/lost passports and 8 for re-entries. Very noisy now as the number-counter is permanently shouting out new numbers in Thai and English.

After you've submitted your non-imm extension (TM7) application and the 1,900 baht fee, you have to go past the stairs and the loo to Room 102 (for Europe/US/Aus, etc, applicants) or Room 101 (for Asia), pick up another number (red for 'business', orange for 'other') and wait to be called while they go through the paperwork, stamp the passport and submit it to their boss for signature.

Yes, everything's downstairs now, as of last month. Takes longer to do the 90-day reporting with all this number malarkey.
