Economy Thailand Rejects 0% Tax Deal with US, Cites Risk to Local Farmers
Given the prices of cacao globally, cacao would be a good choice of crop. But farmers need to join together in cooperatives in order to leverage the supply and distribution, and to negotiate prices with commodity end-points. If Thailand wants to support their farmers, they need to put their money into creating commodities markets linked to the SET, similar to the CME in the US where farm products can be traded and hedged, with distribution on the international stage that is capable of moving international commodity prices. Thailand - unfortunately - is still in the feudal era with it's farming, and big-wig politician protect large corporations while p*ssing on the small farmers. Either form into cooperatives and trade unions are die. "Well offer loans to farmers who can pay them, then allow large player to come in and gobble them up." -

UK Flat – Sell or Keep Renting? Expats Who’ve Been There – What Did You Do?
I just closed on selling my rental in April then stuck 2/3 of the proceeds in a five year annuity. I am now getting more in interest alone than I was getting in rent, I have no taxes/maintenance/rent collecting headaches, and in a medical emergency I can draw out as much as I need without paying a penalty. -

Relative status of BMW and Porche
Which car brand is higher status? And was it always thus? Back in 1970 Janis Joplin sang "Oh Lord, won't you buy me/a Mercedes Benz?/My friends all drive Porsches/I must make amends" which leads me to think that the Benz was higher status then, which is the opposite of what I'd assumed. Any thoughts?
