What's Going On In Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

My wife and I live near Bosang, but decided to go to a buffet for lunch that is not far from the Government Office. We took hwy 121 around to the Mae Rim exit and turned left, going back towards Chiang Mai. At the very first U turn section there were 4 police stationed there, along with red cones to prevent anyone from making a u turn. Same with the next and the next. As we approached Government Office there was a heavy presence of both police, some in full dress uniforms, and a military unit where each of the men were armed with M-16's. At the junction where you would normally turn into the Government Office, there were over a dozen more police and military, as well as a couple of military vehicles blocking that access road, and traffic running from Chiang Mai to Mae Rim was backed up for over a kilometer, while police diverted all traffic heading to Chiang Mai onto the highway.

Anyone know what is going on????

The Prince is in town to hand out diplomas. He'll be here for a few more days.

That is why they are dressed nice :)

One Friday there was also plenty of military and police personal surrounding the Royal Army regent on Phaholyothin Rd here in Bangkok. It appeard that security was heavily beefed up after the shooting of the two policemen the night previous.

Nothing to worry about really.
