Just a little comparison of the same subject shot with a different background...

I'm not sure what blossom this is, but I've seen it in several different places in Thailand. Some time I'll have to find a site that has photos and data of Thai flowering trees and plants. I wasn't trying for any artistic endeavour. I just wanted to record another flower in Thailand.

The next 2 photos are the same flower but taken with a slightly different background. Personally, I prefer the picture with the darker background.

Photography begins to turn into art when you play with the same picture and crop it into close-ups.

Or change the brightness and hue...

I am not sure about the single head on the first shot.

What does it add to the image?

The second one is excellent.

You have caught the architecture and the slightly blurred figures

give a feeling of the rush to catch the train

George created the title, and it was my understanding that "the Arts" part was to broaden the scope beyond

just photography.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes he did create this forum, but it was my title :D and my prompting ThaiVisaDotCom to have a forum like this one, as I was the main instigator of this forum and it only took me about two (2) years btw to get it going tks to George and a few more folks. :D

------------------------------------------------------------------

IMO the general standard of photography has been good over the years, but some of the recent

postings have been slipping into the "snapshot" category.

There is the member's gallery where you can post sets of photos of your experiences in Thailand,

including auntie and the family on the beach, if you feel so inclined.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Good idea 'astral'

------------------------------------------------------------------

If you post in the main Photography forum then you must expect constructive criticism from other members.

That way we can all learn to hone our skills. My pet hate is sloping horizons, where the water will run out

one side of the photo. :D

------------------------------------------------------------------

Well 'astral' you told me that a couple or three years ago and I thank you for it.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Ian Forbes is right about always carrying a camera. I know I have missed many memorable images over the years

when I did not have my camera with me.

Keep the photos coming and feel free to start a new thread, or a competition. PM me if you need assistance.

Sawadee :D

P.S. Hope you like me Art in this post :)

Here's another one of the pictures from the thread that I edited (last one I'll do and I hope OP doesn't mind), again took about five minutes. Maybe a little overcooked for some, but maybe kind of interesting all the same (didn't realize it wasn't even straight till I uploaded it but I'm too lazy to fix it now):

Nice shot but as u said a bit overcooked (way to much saturation and TOO sharp)

Yes, was going for a somewhat different look (I wanted the saturation and sharpness). The pic was someone else's from the beginning of the thread. Here are both, which one is more compelling?

Thanks

I actually prefer the "cooked" one for its "Artsy" graphic look.

I any case it gives everyone an understanding what can be done with pictures. Some folks don't even KNOW what can be done.

I agree. The first shot overall doesn't appeal to me. It seems horribly over-saturated, and I'm not clear at all that there's a point to it. Perhaps the photog liked the angle of the shot?

The second shot...hmmmm...okay.

thanks for your comment... adjustment done was on the tone curve, pulling down on the darks and shadows curve and only minor saturation was increased.

I do like the use of the B&W.

It gives an old world air to the shot

thanks, I am still not sure on the type of photo suitable for B&W
