Clashes Continue, Turning Central Bangkok In Virtual Warzone

PM says red shirts need to go home and allow the road map progress to begin. Assures all will be good but need to end this ___ (not sure how he described the mob)

Now over ... probably get some better translations once ThaiVisa gets an update on the news thread.

The Nation was doing a running translation. Bottom line, stay off the streets and the government will issue the news with one voice, after checking the facts. On all other reports, consider the sources.

They will continue with the roadmap (helping the poor) once the demonstration was over and that is a high priority.

It almost sounded like they are going to go into Rachaprasong tonight and end this (but not run roughshod over the people in Red zone).

I suggest a truce on the case of the 10 years young boy.

It is an obvious mistake, unwanted, that everybody regrets.

Condolences to the family

Rest in Peace.

I think we should stop to speculate on a so tragic error.

thank you

AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of which side (or top) of the fence we are on, let ask new comers to the threads to do the same should they try to use this tragedy to insight others.

Hopefully when all this is over, his face will be known to all and be a reminder why people should do everything possible to not ever let things get this far again.

I will say again for those of you who have entered this forum after me and think I have a colour. I am niether red nor yellow and sit on the fence and look in. I disagree with reds and I disagree with yellows. I make comments on reds and I make comments on yellows. I will and have offended both sides but this is an open discussion.

I agree with 'reds' and I agree with 'yellows' Is a glass half full or half empty?

Perhaps methodology is the question..

Are you asking me to take a side? What side should I take?

READ PLEASE.... I said disagree not agree...... DISAGREE both side have points. Both sides are pulling Thailand down.

Too many people to end it in one night, and it is simply too large. Figure to closer to a week to end most of the fighting and then to tell the rest of the non-combatants to leave. How long for them to leave and clean up everything...? best quesses out there... anyone?

Thaivisa Member: Just spoken to my Mrs. who is station supervisor at BTS National Stadium.

Red Shirts have entered Chidlom, Siam and Rajadamri stations and are in the control rooms there. They forced the supervisors to leave.

There are no BTS staff at those three stations now, only protesters.

Aside from wanton vandalism, what possible 'democratic' purpose can this serve? Pornsasi/levelhead, can you give us your spin take on this, please?

This is sad. Why is a ten year old boy in a protest rally like this? He is too young to comprehend what is going on. The situation has been rocky since yesterday, his guardians/parents should have sent him home.

While serving in the Vietnam war kids where used to kill the good guys

facing a cute smile meant the death for many young US marines

A 10 year old child can kill just as well as a 20 year old

Blame his parents not the soldiers

Good guys... may be they didn't believed u were gud enuf... no justification is enuf...

If a child is willing to kill himself thn u must be wrong ...

Wow, that is good logic.....are you crazy? So i guess all the suicide bombers are in the right as most are young kids and everyone else is wrong. The kids that went into the schools in the USA and killed a bunch of students knowing they will die are in the right? this is what you are saying?

THE NATION: PM: There will be much confusion regarding information. Please be firm.

THE NATION: PM: The other side can say anything, but government has to be responsible for information we give out.

there is a lot of truth in this single statement

the Government is accountable, they have gone firmly on record, they will be judged for their actions

now who will the reds be accountable to when this is all over?

PM says not to believe everything you hear on the news as it is happening and things need to be verified. Lots of innacurate reports coming out ... at least initially

(FYI: GF is translating for me. So, maybe not getting this all exactly right)

Hi time to learn Thai, eh...

I am still concerned, you know the words: "First they came for the... - ... should i not speak up because i am not one of the 'idiots'?

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for me

and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Your analogy is misplaced. The groups referred to in Niemoller's poem were persecuted because of who they were and what they believed in. They were not throwing molotovs in the streets and attacking the army, the state infrastructure, and trying to overthrow the state.

As I'm typing this, my family in the north and northeast are praying that our Siam can be one again. We are all Thais, I still believe our blood is stronger than water...Just please stop the killings already!

Thanks for your post. Thais are one people of one heart and always will be. I am sorry to see anyone die, even Seh Daeng. A friend of mine knows him very well and he was not an evil greedy person.

I have great sympathy for Seh Daeng. Yes, I know what he is accused of and what he has admitted to. He is a tragic figure, every bit as used and manipulated as the ignorant people with crippled minds populating the Red Shirt camp. Condolences to his daughter.

Given the press blackout, the dirty work will be done at night. Now that they know what they are up against and have to do, if they don't come near to closing it out by morning, then it may take a week or more. If they make a lot of headway, 3 days max.

Tonight is a big night.

Abhisit on TV, so not dead yet??

As it was out of sync on different channels, it was probably recorded. So there's still hope.

Weren't you complaining earlier about people wishing death?

Excellent memory, WB.

I was actually unhappy about people rejoicing in death. My comment was more of a quip, a joke.

Maybe.

(So was that)

:)

I was responding to an earlier statement about it being ended in only one night.

It has already ended for a lot of people. The fewer the better.

Another media watchdog, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), called on the army and protesters "to guarantee the safety of the journalists" in the capital.

"The confusion reigning in various parts of Bangkok does not suffice to explain the shooting injuries sustained by several Thai and foreign journalists since April," it said in a statement.

In whose interest is it to see shootings of journalists splashed all over the international media? The gov't or Thaksin's?

Shouldn't these people be pulled out of the area?

Well, if it's true that the Red Shirts have been allowed to take over 3 BTS stations, that's it for me. Abhisit, p*ss off, you miserable bungler, anyone with an ounce more sense than a billiard ball could see that the urban infrastructure (BTS and MRT in particular) are strategic locations.

Given the malevolent intent of the Red Shirts and the serial idiocy of the government, a crucial piece of infrastructure could be ruined for months.

I'm with you MTB. I obviously lacked word skills to convey that. Please don't shout at me. I was agreeing mate. Yes, both sides have points. Just whether we think that that they're bringing Thailand down or trying to bring it forward. Sorry if I offended. Unintentional. Hugs(In a blokey sort of way)

reds demand early elections...........sitting government agrees and sets date

reds continue regardless

Mr T is behind this whole thing pumping money to the leaders, he is set on causing as much unrest as possible regardless of what agreements are reached, Mr T has a lot to answer for...treason comes to mind along with a death penalty for what he has done here........discusting

In a modern country a parent or guardian who puts a child in jeopardy (like, for instance, refuses to evacuate the child from a 'live fire' area) is liable to criminal charges. The red leadership failing to encourage the parents/guardians to get the kids out of there can also face criminal charges.

How "modern" is a Government that declares an inner city area and a rally site to a 'live fire zone' for its military?

Isn't such a government criminal as well and lost any eligibility or legitimacy to be the country's 'guardian' ?
