Going around the bars etc in Samui I find a strange experience, very few people seem to stay longer than a few days and Expats living here only appear to be owners of girly bars with a very narrow outlook on life.

Many of the business's that i've been to, have some of the most ignorant and lazy staff that i've seen in Thailand, many times getting orders and bills wrong, no-one really wants to serve you, this possibly from the lack of training or interest from the boss.If you order in English they look at you all glazed and if you reply in Thai then you recive the UUHHGG?...really quite amazing.

Is there anywhere on Samui where you can go for a drink and talk with fellow Expats that are interested in business......please No girly bars (unless they are professionally run) :o:D

There are a few nice bars in Bophut were expats meet each other. Mostly English though and French but still nice I think.

Relaxed atmosphere and no BG's.

I went for the first time to the secret garden , had a great time .Lots of expats & their families.

Also coincided with the launch of Network Samui , maybe worth a look for you.

Secret Garden..Nice place.

The reality is Samui doenst have the numbers of long term falangs that Phuket and Pattaya have.

The expat circle is fairly clicky.

Some pubs draw a reas group ,some not bar owners,if you are from the UK FAWLTY TOWERS seems to do ok if you like the UK style pub, pool ,cig smoke, tatoos and sausy and mashy peas scene...a lot of Uk expats who have done well in property on the island drink there.

The Billabong in bohput gets a few aussies and is aussie owned and a nice clean bar.

Cocoboncos on the corner of the road to reggae pub is also owned by an aussie who seems to get a of the local drinking school in some nights.

Most of the expats seem to move around the bars, rather than frequent one and many I know have even stopped going and stay home with the missus...must be getting too old :o

I guess they realise there are a lot of desperate farangs trying to find somewhere interesting to go. :o

I stumbled across a little place where a bunch of American expats seemed to congregate late in the afternoon. A real friendly bunch of folks and none were bar owners.

It's called Montanas Saloon( a restaurant really) and it is located in the north part of Lamia by the Long Island Resort.

Cheers

hmm seems like a business rather than an expat club.

maybe a few will be desparate enough.

You could always form samui expats club.

Thats a sure way of getting to meet some people.

Pyros, tell Terry the name before he spits the dummie again :D

It's Samui ( or Lamai ) Boathouse restaurant on the beach . Maybe 50 meters from Wanta Resort . Everytime i'm on Samui i go there ( and that's quite a lot ) and almost never there are no people there which aren't very longtime stayers . I think it is because the owner which is Australian , moved to Samui about 3 years ago and goes there before 7 or 8 years or longer . Many of the people previous met are now expats or knew eachother from a different place ( in Lamai ) . They are all nice people from about everywhere , from US to UK to Germany , Australia etcetc . I'll be there next week again ( 23th i'm there ... ) :D:D . Ask for Set and they will know me ... :o

What a negative attitude. If you bother to read the offerings & goals, you might have a different attitude. But by all means you are entitled to your opinion , but bagging someone for trying to ultimatly build an expats club when a lot of people are showing interest in such a venue. Constructive criticism & non negative approach might just be more beneficial.

Again the goal of saving money , getting a club is beyond a few farangs level of understanding ,it does involve some contribution which they are not ready to extend.

The problem is not every farang is here for the sole purpose of socialising everyday, some have businesses , families & children which they would also like to involve in activities & no I AM IN NO WAY INVOLVED with Networksamui I just despise the fact of how quick we can shoot a meritable idea down. :o

I started an expat club some months ago in Nathon. At a great restuarant on the left after the See View and Sea View hotels, going down to the promenade. Meeting :D every Friday night. So far we have a member count of mmm.. 1. That's me I suppose :o

There are few places where expact meet every night. But I can recommend new bar called CRUSH BAR , soi Green Mango.

Mostly English hang out there but everybody is welcomed. If you can spin some tunes bring your own CDs.

Happy Hours till 14:00 - 22:00 !

Big screen TV and good movies and tunes all day long.

Manager Scott will be very helpfull.

Enjoy and have one drink for me pls.

The ex pat bars on Samui are Red Fox in Lamai run by Alan, especially Sundays for roast dinners, as is the Secret Garden in Bangrak run by JJ. Chaweng is the Coco Blues owned by Alan, and Bophut Kirk's and Pete's Billabong and Steve's Inn The English Pub. In Maenam it's Toddy House especially Saturdays for the Live Music, and the secret one is Moonshine Bar, at Sea Shore Bungalows 2, run by cheaky scouser, Steve. The Bungey jump is real cliquey and some Danish Bikers (not so nice ones) have kind of ended up patronising the Sunday BBQ's, along with those who think it's cool to hang out with them.

Thanks for all the nice things said about Secret Garden, as I own it and ran it from 1990 until Dec 2002.

As for therer being no expat community here, well, you've got your head in the sand pal.

Best venue on the Island Steve, I met you some time ago thru Frank aka The Deck, before he got shafted by the Kiwi from KL.

Hi,

First posting, just signed up.

Could always try the Molotov in Soi Colibri, run by Steve, Kay and Sharon or the Hut in Bangrak.

There is also the Frisby golf where there are usually plenty of Expats.

I agree, Secret Garden on a Sunday evening is great.

Duncan.
