I am trying to figure out how to get a special herbal medicine shipped back to the USA without it being thrown away or held up by customs...

I have a fairly bad thyroid problem that makes me extremely tired for no apparent reason... I have tried prescription medicines the a US doctor gave me but they made me feel awful and sick to my stomach when i stopped taking them...

When my Thai wife went back home she said there was this lady in the provinces (name of town escapes me) who makes her own medicine from natural herbs. My wife told me the lady has made it for people in my Wife's home town who had much more severe cases of thyroid problems... I decided that the prospect of fixing my body was worth the trip back to Thailand to try this medicine...

Short story is it worked wonders but since i have recently run out i am starting to feel like i did before i took this wonderful herbal solution...

The medicine is expensive for even US standards but well worth it... I am inclined to ask the lady to have some shipped to me here in the states but not until i am 100% sure that it will not be thrown away by Thai post offices or confiscated by customs because the bottle has only a hand written label in Thai only of course...

We were going to have one of my Wife's friends bring some home to the US but that is no longer an option... So i can only take ANOTHER expensive trip to get more or find a "Reliable" way to ship it here to the US without any problems along the way...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you,

R

Well, OK, here's a shot.

The worry is U.S. Customs, right?

Are you able to ID the ingredients of the "medicine?" If so, and if they're pretty much innocuous, snail mail over a small quantity to yourself.

If you're not able to ID the ingredients, suggest you talk to your local Customs or DEA office (hopefully you have such handy) and ask them for suggestions. Perhaps you could mail a package to them??

Or perhaps you could snail mail a small package to your own doctor?

Does the "ya" have a Thai nickname? Need to be somewhat careful of such as the Thai do have an occasional strange way of handling some of their local stuff. I'm thinking here of finding ground up dried marijuana on the table at a noodle shop to be used as a condiment in your guey tieo, Issan style, of course....

Yes customs is what i am more concerned with then anything...

As to your side note i would like to know the location of your Issan Noodle Shop... =] Do you mean the shop was in Issan or just serving Issan style noodles...??

I spoke with customs, actually Food and Drug Administration, and they told me to get my doctor to order a IND (Investigational New Drug) permit for a maximum of 30 day supply but during summer break my school health insurance is not in effect... This is how clinical studies are done overseas to get a FDA approval to ship/sell products...

I (my wife's family) did get the lady to put the medicine in a bottle that lists (some) ingredients... In a rough translation my wife said it reads a list of ingredients and says "...and other ingredients" as if she does not want to give away her family recipe... =]

I will have someone else over there take the bottle to a translator to get the translation of the ingredients into english...

I was hoping someone else had done this before because it still feels like i am tossing a coin on weather the customs agent (if it is inspected) is having a good or bad day and will let my personal supply of non FDA approved, but also non dangerous supply of medicine through the net... =0

Issan noodle condiments? How about NKP, Sakhon Nakhon, for a start, some years, well, "lots of years," ago.
