Goompa, amazing macro shoots, what gear are you shooting with? Are you using a ring flash? Thanks.

I am using a Tamron 90mm with 1:1 macro and tri foot but are getting so so results.

Hi guzzi , not using flash , just hand held with Olympus 60mm macro 1:1. Not using digital tele converter either , it seems to create a bit too much artifacts.

Cheers

The dog sniffed this last night and walked away, must have thought it was a leaf, I only checked to see what it was as I've seen it a few times over the last few weeks but not been able to get a shot.

Was quite dark I could only see a feint line of focus drifting about, no AF assist light with manual lens :-(  shame the eye isnt in focus but nevermind....

For some reason I'd never looked at the 'Nature' thread before.  Wow!  There's some of the best images on TV in this thread - excellent macro work.  I can never seem to get macro images in really sharp focus.   Camera movement seems to be one issue, but I'm struggling to use a tripod for something like a dragonfly - as they keep moving?  And the depth of field is so narrow!

This is a Forester - a sp of moth.  Zygaenidae. There are some 1000 spp of these in the world but as with most moths new ones are being added all the time as many are not named or discovered yet. The Foresters are diurnal and feed at flowers.  They are quite small so are often overlooked.  They blow away the myth that all moths are night creatures and drab colours.  This one is very smart looking.  I attach a couple of pics of a similar one taken in Australia.  This is about 20-25mm or 3/4 of an inch.  Note the beautiful antenna.  Also the iridescence.  I shall see if U=I can find out more about Thai Foresters.  If you see any more I would be keen to get details - eg where and what they are on etc.Zyganaenidae Pollanisus sp Ellis Brook 15 Aug 2015 9368.jpg

Thank you Mousehound, the only extra info I can give you,is that that photo was taken early August,on a mountain near our village of Nong Saeng,Tha Khantho,Kalasin. The mountain is quite densely wooded,so I suppose the name 'Forester' is quite fitting.Love the image you posted in your post, beautiful colours and very nicely edited.

Note to Ron,think you have found your area of expertise mate, the shots here and in the flower thread are some of the best that I have seen from you! Maybe worthwhile investing in a full macro lens and try taking it a step further?

Stunning shots Phil !!!

Thank You....I do not have your talent ... Not Yet :)

Well Phil,we are going to have to agree to disagree, on that matter.

Those last three posts are all beautiful composed, framed and edited.

I have never had any nature shots,as good as those.........yet!!! :D

Sure, great shots, Phil!

And somptuous OOF backgrounds...

Composition/framing on the 3rd one (1916) is outstanding: wow!

I'm amazed...

Once I tried to get some butterflies pics, but to no avail.

I was jumping, running and excited like a kid trying to follow the butterflies in their course in my garden. A lot of sweat and many shots, but nothing in focus or rightly framed.

Burlesque...

:cheesy:

Thank you.... I know your problem .....You jump and run to much..... You must put anesthetics on the flowers to fall asleep butterflies.

Really..... Try....
