Hi..hope someone can offer advice on a problem i have with Facebook (particularly as support there seems non-existent).

I have a fan page and I block spammers/advertisers etc. But, recently noticed, when logged into another account, that they can still post, they are just invisible to me. So, for me that renders the block facility useless. Ive had to unblock them so i can see their posts and manually remove them.

It seems fan pages are subject to a sort of glitch with the block facility.

Has anyone had an experience of this?

Tips? Solutions?

Thanks so much!

I would like to express my bad biased attitude and say it is typically facebook to let you think you are safe while you are not...

Do you have any particular reason to put the stuff on Facebook at all?

If you need any control at all, Facebook is a bad idea in my opinion. I have seen people delete pictures and others links to the same pictures still works.

If I were you, I would put the stuff somewhere else. Possibly you can create links in facebook pointing to your stuff.

I have a server at home for exactly that reason and I use mollom.com services to filter out bad stuff...

I have just a couple of days experience with that service but it seems to be good. Basically when you or someone else submit stuff to your website the content is sent to mollom and mollom compares it to other bad stuff and tell your website if is is spam or not. If mollom is not sure you will get a captcha... if it is bad stuff, your website will not accept the content.

The only thing that worries me is that basically everything you put into the website is sent to mollom... What will they do with all that data... sell it to Facebook or some other mafia boss maybe? Mollom is initiated by the same guy who started drupal so if you trust him, you trust mollom but he may sell the company including the database... we don't know that. So what seems to be a good idea at first may turn into something that is a threat to the rights of personal integrity. On the other hand, you have already accepted all that by using facebook in the first place.

Now I don't know if Facebook can be configured to use any service like that. They probably don't care. If you have something based on Drupal or Wordpress there are ready modules to install. You can also download library functions if you need make something by yourself.

Haven't found a way either to do what you want!

The block list only works on your own personal page, so much so that if a blocked person knows your exact FB name and does a search for you, he'll be told there is nobody matching his search.

However, FB apparently presumes that a fan-page should be fully open to all, and as such has no option to block people.

Fanpages are also fully viewable to people not logged into FB, however they cannot post anything unless logged in.

One small thing you can do is stop everybody from posting live links. Just click on settings (just above the top post on your wall and you'll see the setting)

Monty, i found a solution..purely by chance actually.

Wanted rid of a spammer, and knowing that the block function only hides his posts from me and not others, i decided to flag the post. After i flagged it, I was given the option to report and block, which i did. That removes them from being able to post on your page, plus all the previous posts they have made.

Sorted!

Siamect...thank you for your info and suggested options. :)
