Recommended Posts

hello

i am an american (25 yrs old) and am traveling to thailand, flying in june 30 and leaving aug 13. i know i need a tourist visa in order to stay that long, but have 2 questions:

1) i plan to go to cambodia for some of that time, is the tourist visa multi-entry? in other words, can i enter thailand on the tourist visa, leave and come back on the same visa?

2) i am living in taipei, taiwan and cannot find the info for a thai embassy. and of course need to do this asap....help! :o

many thanks for your help

aloha

As a U.S. Passport holder you are "stamped-in" for 30 days on arrival in Thailand - there is no fee for this. If you depart Thailand for a neighbor country you are re-admitted for another 30 days and a new stamp given (for 30 days.)

You can keep doing this as long as you wish and each time you enter Thailand you have a 30 day stamp. Easy, clean, legal.

And you do need a visa if your stay is over 30 days before you confirmed onward travel by law. Though immigration is unlikely to require this the airline may.

For your second entry, if less than 30 days, it should not be a problem. If more than 30 days you can obtain a re-entry permit inside Thailand from immigration (1,000 baht) to allow your return during the 60 day tourist visa stay.

A tourist visa is not multi entry. Although you can obtain tourist visa valid for more than one entry (two or three and sometimes four).

There's a Thai Trade office in Taiwan. It issues visa's. There is no formal diplomatic recognition between Thailand and Taiwan, thus there is no embassy.

okay, great! do you know the address/ phone number of the Thai Trade office? i hope it's in Taipei?

wait, just googled it. is this it?

thanks for the info. i do have a paid-for and confirmed roundtrip ticket to and from thailand. so what youre saying is that i will need to get a tourist visa valid for more than one entry, and then obtain a re-entry permit before i go to cambodia so that i can come in using the same 60 day tourist visa.

however, i just read in -let's go thailand- that "americans....can stay for 30 days without a visa. for longer stays, travelers can a buy a 10-day extension (500 baht) at an immigration office in Thailand or apply for a 60-day tourist visa ($25USD) from any Thai consulate prior to arriving...."

i keep reading different info on whether or not the "30 days" (landing visa?) is extendable. ?!

my supposed itinerary is as follows:

june 30 arrive bkk

july 1 head to cambodia

july 8 return to thailand

aug 13 leave thailand

which means i will be in thailand for 36 days (the 2nd time around). if it's true that i can buy a 10-day extension, then i would prefer to do that.

please advise....

thanks so much for your help!

The problem is that the airline may not let you board the aircraft in Taipei as you do not meet the required return in 30 day clause. So with your plans a two entry tourist visa would be the safe thing. No re entry permit would be required as you would use the second tourist visa entry on your return from Cambodia.

You are also tight to get a re entry permit for a single entry visa as that would require a visit to Suan Phlu in Bangkok for an hour or two on the day you arrive or leave for Cambodia.

You can try to board aircraft as you are but arrive early and be prepared to arrange/pay for an onward ticket at airport if they catch you.

The 10 day extension is probably possible but if not you could make a border run to obtain another 30 day stay.
