Pattaya Motorway Exit

Ok now that the new link to the motorway is open and working pretty well why is the exit to Sukumvit north still blocked and the signal lights just flashing yellow? I don't get to Pattaya but once every couple of weeks and each time I come in on the new highway and get to Suk, I would like to go north but I am forced to go south all the way to the nasty U-turn at Siam Country Club soi. They spent the money and the equipment is in place and seems to be working,,,,,,,,why the delay? Is the road not officially open? Is there a problem getting permission (tea money to the right person) from the road department in Pattaya?

And while they are at it maybe an on ramp towards Pattaya at the second junction (Nong Prue I think) and an off ramp if coming from Pattaya. all of the people in that area have to take a massive detour around Soi Siam country club when there is a perfectly good highway which is not being used. From this area if you want to go to Bangkok r come from Bangkok all works well, but the other way.... forget it

I was going to say where is the logic in that.................... but then I would be wasting my time

The lights at the junction to turn right (North) at the end of the new road were operating briefly for a few days.

I think the powers that be decided that yet another set of traffic lights on Sukhumvit was one set too many and they decided not to use them. Hence the 'permanent' blocking of the right turn lane.

I always smile when I drive down to that junction as there is invariably at least one vehicle who doesn't realise until the last moment that he cannot turn right and almost hits the barrier before turning sharply left.

If it hasn't happened already, one day there is going to be a nasty accident there - maybe in the dark when it is raining and the driver has had a few drinks.

You can always come off the spur at the exit by the railway tracks (just before Sukhumvit), turn left then make a u-turn over the tracks at the next intersection and work your way back north and then re-enter Sukhumvit. This will avoid the traffic at the Siam Country Club junction on Sukhumvit.

Update is.........there is no update!

Depending on where you'd like to go, take the first exit after the #36 intersection.

You'll get onto Soi Chayapornviti.

Make a U-turn and you'll be heading towards Sukhumvit, with a possibility to turn left towards Pattaya and turn right towards SriRacha.

At the moment, City Hall has their hands full on all the other new-installed traffic lights, that were supposed to be working by now.

Well at least the "Basjke exit" still seems to be working without a hitch, used every day for the last 6 months and cost a hundred baht for the service. Although recently have noticed a sign (when coming from Pattaya) saying no left turn off the highway.

Did anyone notice they are now building entrance/exits towards Pattaya! FTW! :clap2:

Did anyone notice that they have build a 2 meter high fence alon g big stretches of the highway and that there is a traffic sign at the entrance on Sukumvith that motorbikes are not allowed.

I think soon the toll booths will be build.

if u mean at nong pru, then its because it was badly designed before with only exit ramps but no entry ones back onto the motorway. tons of eejuts going the wrong way down the ramps and quite a few accidents.

It wasn't a design issue, it was a political decision that the motorway was built for the benefit of Bangkok folks coming to Pattaya, not for us baan noks living here. There was often a queue of cars waiting to exit/enter the wrong way. Seems they finally realized that either they build the missing exits/entrance roads or people were going to break the law and cause dangerous situations.

very dissapointing they are closing this road to motorbikes, I use it on a regular basis (big bike) when going to Bangkok or Rayong direction

As far as I know it was never open to motorbikes - they are not allowed on motorways in Thailand. Though it does seem that's more regarded as a "guideline" here...

But they are allowed on the section from where the exit to Rayong is all the way towards Chonburi. Also take note that those traffic signs are only installed on the entrance from Sukhumvith side,no other entrance has the signs.
