I am going to buy 4 new Vanco 195R 15C 106/104R tyres for my beloved Triton. They have given me 30,000 kms of puncture and incident free driving. Any advice on how much I can expect to pay and where I should go to make the purchase would be most welcome. I am in the Ratchaburi area, about 100 km west of Bangkok.

They wear out pretty quick then, 30k, thats less than 19,000 miles, not very good eh. :ermm:

I am hardly an expert in these things but there is still life in them but will need replacing soon. More importantly as I said no punctures or blow outs and they are not always used on the best roads. what do you recommed?

I will take the info you gave me and ask my tyre guy... I might be changing my wheels soon/ they have some lovely new black chrome wheels at the shop now... 20"....

If you have a 2wd triton it is important to rotate the tyres and check that they are set up correctly...

I got 20000km out of the first set of tyres I had on the Jazz, then I went to my mate and complained - clearly their fault so they changed them and I got about 30000km out of the second set before I sold it... Those tyres are still on the jazz now...

It is often cheaper to buy a set with wheels and tyres than just the tyres...

A good set of tyres will set you back everything from 3000B to 8000B... (I know, big gap there) Depending on the road I would be mostly on I would choose to change tyres...

I drive mostly on the main road, so I have flat street tyres on my Vigo... They have done 45000Km so far, and I think that I will change them in September (unless I buy the black chrome wheels)

If you do happen to drive where they have alot of pot holes or dirt/gravel roads, get yourself some all terrain tyres, cost more, but last longer...

You should also think about what you load your pickup with, is it heavy duty work /or family get to tesco's dry?

I think that if your wheels has only lasted about 30000Km, you have not checked the air preassure often enough... You might want to have a look at that too...

How is the threading on your wheels? Any special sections that are worse than others? That would tell you a great deal about your driving and how you they get worn down so fast...

Good luck and I will try to post some specific details about your tyres tomorrow...

Thanks very much for your assistance and input and I 'll look forward to anything else you post. Ditto Transam. I am going to do a bit more research into the tyres/wheel combination. When I bought the car it had new wheels and tires, the same ones that are on it right now. But not Mitsubishi wheels. I not a techie. Just wanna turn the key and go. Sometimes do long trips but essentially light loads, shortish distances. Many thanks again

Try tyre-plus, a few kms down from Robinsons in Ratburi. My wife is from there and I often get tyres done there (also brakes and springs too, for my car). The owner speaks some english too. Prices are quite reasonable.

Then there is the large "cockpit" just out of town near the big c (just past it going towards petburi). They seem ok too but I just had some wheel balancing done there.

Can I have your old tyres? I'm planning a little gathering in downtown BKK..

;)

and I'll fill the pickup with sharpened bamboo stakes for your friends!laugh.gif

Changing tyres away from the makers spec can quite noticeably change your vehicle's handling.

usually for the worse.

I can't recommend a particular tyre - but you might ask about with reference to what conditions you intend to use the vehicle in..

Something came up yestrday so I could not pop by the tyre shop... Will go there in the afternoon today... All free today...

PS... swapping the tyres old for new is a good way to get discount...

Buy some decent tires for your pick-up. Cooper tires come with a good warranty. They are priced up there with Michelin and Pirelli, but they have a great reputation for endurance.

Hi, I just spoke to my mate and he gave me a prize for your wheels... 1500pr. tire... so a total of 6000B for all four... He could also take the old tires as an exchange- but the price he would give for them would be decided when he can see them...

On another side, he wanted me to change my 20' wheels, that would cost me 30000B for tires alone, and if I changed the rims as well, 40000B... after I have given my old wheels...

Just checked my Bridgestones that came with my Chev Colorado and @ 70,000+, it looks like I have at least 10k to go. That sells me on Bridgestone and will replace with same. No problems [knock on wood]!!

70k km's on Maxxis Bravo 760's and still looking good, could' nt be arsed with rotating.

Just over 3 years on the truck, a friend who knows about these matters says you should change them around the 4 year point regardless of plenty of tread left,

something to do with being constantly between 36 - 42 C around these parts.

Tyres made in LOS are mostly made of natural rubber (not imported synthetic rubber). Natural rubber ages more quickly, and very quickly in LOS temperature and sunshine. So after 3 years its either significantly reduced traction or new tyres. All tyres come with manufactor week and year (like 0409, week 4/ 2009). Check that when buying new.

yepp, I m impressed of the short lifetime of OPs tyres. The 15" 70-80 profile 195-215 low cost tyres for pickups usually covers 90-120k km. They are made with one priority only, lifetime.

18 month old Isuzu Hi-lander with 83k on the clock is ready for it's 3rd set of Dueller H/Ts. Rotation is a must with these as the front wear un-evenly (maily due to hard cornering.
