Hi all..my first post on Thaivisa.

I'm bringing my TV to Thailand and I was wondering about customs...The TV is two years old but it looks like new (no, I'm not trying to sell it) and i don't have the receipt anymore.

Can Anyone tell me if this is acceptable to bring with me? Would I need to pay duty?

In case you wonder why I bring it. I use it for my computer and play station. crazy gamer :-)

tnx all

Custom will charge you duty on it and if its not 220 volts its a wast of time. You can buy a used TV cheep enough in Thailand.

Thanks for your reply.

I can't imagine it would be cheaper to buy another 32inch LCD instead of paying duty. This kind of tv costs around 500 - 600 hundred usd now. what woudl the duty be?

I see you say USD so it looks like your TV is 120V. Voltage in Thailand is 220V. As for a 32 inch LCD I have seen them as low as 12000 baht. Duty is what THEY want to charge. Could go as much as 80% of new and with out a receipt THEY set the price.

Sorry, I did see your remark about 220 but forgot to tell you that it's a 220 volt tv.

I will have a decision to make :-( I'm going to bkk to work (noting setup yet) and have sold most of my stuff in Vietnam, where I've been living the last years.

Your advice is to sell my tv here and buy a new one in Thailand...if duty is so high it might be the only/best option. I wonder how people get their laptops into the country :-)

A lot of TV's will work on 110 to 240 volts, if you have a work visa when you come to Thailand you should be able to claim exemption from duty. If you can't avoid duty you may better off selling where you are and replace it in Thailand.
