There is currently running an auto show at Central Beach in Pattaya. I have been interested in the Pajero for some time and they are offering the following price and specs for purchase at the show.

Pajero Sport 2WD GT for 1,097,000 baht (B 1,112,000 for white)....with registration and license around another B 12,500. To buy is B 10k deposit and balance on delivery in 2-3 weeks. The GT model comes with body side moldings, roof-rack, and step side-bars included, along with 16" mag wheels. (I asked if they could sub. for a cost the 17" wheels that are standard on the 4WD version and she said they couldn't. She suggested some of the local tire shops might have a set of the 17" wheels from someone who swapped them out our their 4WD model for even bigger wheels and that I could swap-out my 16"s to these 17"s for around B 30k.)

Free show accessories and add-ins include:

Window film,

Carpets,

Back-up camera,

DVD/GPS Navi unit 7" screen with Alpine stereo head-unit (B 11,000 value they say)

Spoiler,

1 Year 1st class insurance,

Enhanced 5 year/150,000 kilo warranty,

Dust cover.

They claim these freebies add up to B 34,000 or so.

Is this a good deal? How does this compare to recent deals others may have received on this vehicle. She said this package was available for orders placed at the show and not at local dealers.

It's reasonable except for the "Tabien Rod" (registration) - that costs ~6,500 Baht.

It also seems they're misrepresenting some standard features of the car as being "extras"..

The following are all standard features of the 2WD GT model:

  • Wheel arches (side moldings)
  • Roof bars
  • Side steps
  • 16" alloys
  • 5 year/150,000KM warranty
  • Alpine stereo with 7" LCD touchscreen

The following are currently free as part of the Mitsubishi nation-wide "Happy in the Rain" campaign:

  • Rear view camera
  • 1 year first-class insurance

So what you're actually getting thrown-in by the dealer is:

  • GPS navigation
  • Window film
  • Floor mats
  • Car cover

That's not to say it's not a good deal BTW, I just wanted to clarify what's standard and what's not :)

If I was buying now, I'd be pushing them to give all of the above plus some weather shields, side mirror covers with LED's and stainless door sill protectors as well ;) I'd also be specifying the brand of window film used too (3M for me) so they don't just put the cheapest stuff they can find on, and I'd be offering them no more than 7K baht for registration (=extra 500 Baht for their time).

As for the 17's, most tire shops are trading them in for ~25K for a set of 4, and trading in the 16's for 17-20K, so you should be able to get them for 10K or less changeover - paying 30K would simply be giving your 16" wheels away.

Thanks 4 the heads-up. Lots of good info. As for the wheel exchange, i probably mis-undrrstood the salesgirl. I did get that the dealer difn't do it but outside shops.

GPS module for 11,000 baht? Which unit are they specifying? The Alpine one or the Kamaz unit?

It's an Alpine head-unit. Don't know who provides the GPS software.

One thing i don't like is the prominant radio antenea sticking out the front roof like s rinodarous horn.

But you'll soon love it when you go into low-roof carparks because it functions as a beautifully simple height indicator *scrape* :)

In fact, being in Pattaya you'll absolutely rely on it to plot a safe course around the Royal Garden Plaza carpark..

I was in at the dealership yesterday and there's apparently a "Zulex" brand GPS option they're now pitching. I didn't get a chance to query them re: price, what maps it uses, or whether it integrates with touch or not though :(

Just been to my local Mitsu garage, i asked them if they had any PMD-B100E navigation units available, he informed me no one has had a Sat Nav fitted at the Ubon dealership, and he would need to check with Bangkok. Alpine also has a Navi-202 available but after checking with Alpine BKK it is not compatable with my present system. He also informed me as of two months ago Mitsu has replaced the M7T screen with a new model. Interested to know more on the Zulex spec if you happen to obtain.

Would it be better to wait till next year to buy as new Euro 4 spec SUVs from _GM and Toyota (updated Fortuner or replacement) will be available?

The only all-new SUV's in the next few years will be from Chev/Isuzu - Toyota and Mitsubishi are both already Euro IV compliant in other markets with the current models on sale here, so all they need to do is add a particulate filter and updated ECU program to comply with the 2012 Euro IV legislation for Thailand.

As for release dates, you're looking at mid-late 2012 for the new Chev/Isuzu (the SUV variant always lags the pickup by 6-12 months) and 2014 for the next generation Fortuner. Nothing has leaked out of Mitsubishi regarding a new platform yet, but I wouldn't expect anything all-new until 2013-14 from them.

I was quoted about 29,000 baht for the PMD-B100 when I bought my PS. I opted for the Kamaz unit that was about 20,000 if I remember. That is very interesting that they say that the new PS has a different screen, would like to know what the model number is if you can find out.

So if I go ahead and buy the Mitsui now it won't be dated for 3-4 years...that's good to know...and not dated by a new Fortuner either ...nice.

Went to Central again today to view again. I just wish the Alpine model on offer had iPod playback capability (with a USB plug). Are there other Alpine or other brands that would connect with the display system that comes with the PS-GT?

Now just have to decide whether to bite the bullet and do my part for the Thai economy.

Thx for all your input...you seem to be a font of knowledge when it comes to the auto industry in LOS...I assume you work in the industry :jap:

Just had a quick look at www.zulexelectronics.com/thai/index.php and the english section

there seems to be many options for gps, screens h/u`s etc...front conections for ipods, many features supported on their dvd h/u`s.....looks good, i wonder if any of the gps boxes will mate to the alpine screen we have.....maybe MRO can dig out some info as usual...high hopes please...

Looked at both the Kamaz + Alpine units - cannot find anything under 23K THB

seriously, just spend a little money (100k baht) on the 3.2 GT 4wd

1) it's not much

2) the difference in the engine is huge, for a big car 140hp is definately not enough unless you want to add the mod chip

3) all the mods you are getting for "free" are already included

4) since the mods are included, you can get more freebies

5) 4wd will be usefull when it pours hard, more stable.. your wife (or future) will love this if she's scared of everything like most thai women

6)the GPS is worthless, get an iphone app(or the google free one when 3g is launched) or pay 3000baht for an euro or american brand GPS that you can store away and bring out only when you need it(which in thailand is pretty rare since there's not many streets to get from any point a to point B)

Thanks for the input...for the extra money, all I would really want is the more powerful engine. I don't need 4x4 as I don't go off-road and the extra weight decreases fuel economy and the extra mechanical complication increases service costs. I also don't need any GPS/Navi unit as I have an Android phone with Google maps and navigation apps already (and which work quite well in Thailand) and I don't need any DVD either as I don't have any kids who want to watch movies in the car.

So maybe better to just get the mod chip for around 25k.

Well, off to a <deleted> great start. Put down 20k on one in the showroom last Monday. Sorted out selling the old car, finance approved, and they've gone and sold the thing. Bastards. I gave em a blast - they reckon the other showroom sold it at the same time I was buying and they didn't know. They've offered me another car to drive while waiting for arrival of new vehicle Tuesday or Friday. Problem with that is that the 'realease' day for a blessing has to be this Tuesday or next...

If thats how they treat a new purchaser, it really worries me what their service is going to be like. Thinking of canceling. Wish their were more dealers here and I would.
