England hammer Australia by 9 wickets in a game no one really seemed that keen on playing on this dark day.

Well done for playing on to both teams and showing the terrorists that they can not dent true British and Aussie spirit.

As this was the first ODI to use the new international rules it was a pity the organisers decided not to use a conventional cricket pitch. Instead a piece of turf was imported from the cheese rolling and bog snorkling events. The result was decided before the first ball was bowled by the toss of a coin. England won and put Oz into bat. Byes and wides scored heavily as the ball cut wildly off the pitch.

On an otherwise black day for the host country, the sun shone during their innings to dry things out and make batting considerably easier.

Of note was the way the slithy Australians exploited a loophole in the new substitution rules to gain a slight advantage with their bowling.

Thats Headingley for you Old Croc.

Yeah, I know. But wouldn't be nice to have an equal playing field to sort these two sides out?

Maybe.......but when have cricket pitches been an even playing field? Its the very nature of the game that wickets deteriorate or have a bit of juice early on.

In the past England have been guilty of preparing fair wickets instead of playing to our strengths which is something every other test playing nation always does. Now we have the better pace attack we should prepare seaming wickets and rip em apart........but we won't.

As usual we'll probably prepare flat raging turners which will be useless to our pacemen but will allow Warne and Magill to rip through us.
