House/land Ownership For Us Passport Holders

Featured Replies

It hear?? that those with US passports can own a house with up to 1 Rai of land as to and expeption to the normal rules!

I have no idea why US nationals keep posting this misbelief that they get special treatment in this [land acquisition] matter. The fact of the matter is that any foreign national can purchase up to an aggregate of 1 Rai of land in Thailand for residential purposes PROVIDED THAT:

they are willing to invest a minimum of 40 million Baht (which sum does not include the purchase price of the property(-ies)) in government sanctioned investment vehicles for a minimum period of 5 years.

Assuming you are happy to do that, no problem. But, as to land acquisition in Thailand, no one foreign national has preference over any other foreign national - which is to say, we are all in the same boat.

TiT Dr. P - where we can all reinvent ourselves before the glass is half empty :D

Just as well really, otherwise none of us would be here :o

According to previous threads Amity treaty has nothing to do with land ownership.
