There's something very fishy about this story.

Is it for reel?

If the OP is codding around, we have fallen for it - hook, line and sinker.

Ok,Ok, I'll get my coat.

(BTW - Did NOBODY get my "shellfish" (i.e. - selfish) pun? at post #8) :(

Maybe even sing a song together, in the Tuna old times!

I think this topic needs a net thrown around it!

The upper critter in this photo is a shrimp from a Thai river. They don't attack fish unless the fish is already dead. But, most fish will eat shrimp. The lower creature in the photo is a hellgramite which is a carnivorous insect

Agree with Bina great thread,

Just got to add that the sight and more the name "hel_l GRAMITE" of that creature in your hand is enough to give me the eebie jeebies.

Its like something from a horror movie or a nightmare....The Hellgramites are going to eat you!

Hope you're feeling batter soon.... :whistling:

Anyway back on topic - I think the OP should close the thread with a picture of said prawn (I think it's a rock lobster), preferably on a BBQ with some garlic and butter.

Why don't you just take it out of the aquarium and put it in it's own little house? Goldfish have feelings too, imagine trying to woo the sexy girgoldfish with a raggity tail?

If you want a little excitement at feeding time... stick a few of these giant snakeheads in your aquarium and leave them for a few days. Snakeheads are available at most aquarium outlets. Then, add a few gold fish. You have to add more than one goldfish or you won't see what happens. The snakeheads are too quick and the goldfish just disappear in the blink of an eye... just like watching a geko take a fly. The snakehead will take care of the offending crayfish.

Don't get your fingers near a snakehead. They will take it right off. This is the business end of a snakehead.

I finally had proof today, one of the lads up here helping to pick Lam Yai went for a drink of water and noticed the little orange bastard had caught hold of the black goldfish by the tail and was simply "hanging on" the goldfish, or blackfish, despite being twice the size, was unable to escape!

It isn't big enough for a barbeque yet, but time is on my side, sadly not the goldfishes!( 280 Baht for a mouthfull seems a bit expensive)

...or no head!

My younger brother in law, a few years back in Bangkok, bought a few pretty fish in the local market he was told lived well with other fish. His dad (my father in law) had a medium sized tank full of fantail and lion head goldfish that he had lovingly (?) cared for and fed with that colouring food that makes them grow large and brings out their colours. His dad was at work (navy) when little bro arrives home with said fish - which he plops into the tank. What followed was like a scene from Pirhana, with frothing and blood and churned up water. As he tried helplessly to 'fish' them back out of the tank before all the goldies were gone. His dad was furious and made him take them back to the market stall holder - no goldies survived and it all lasted just a minute or so. He had bought these beauties...

Great story, Wolf. I'd love to see a battle between an Oscar and a snakehead. It would be a messy war. If they were the same size they might just tolerate each other after a battle or two. I have a friend who has a 70 cm Giant snakehead that he's had since it was a baby. It lives in an outside pool with three bottom feeding fish that are much smaller, but, all the fish seem to have come to an agreement and don't harm each other. The Giant snakehead only feeds at spaced intervals, but when it happens it happens suddenly. Goldfish only last a few seconds.
