In no way do I mean this as a slag off. I take it your farang and your GF is Thai. The way you want to celebrate her birthday is a farang cultural thing not a Thai way. Her way is to go to a Wat and make merit and feeding lunch to the kids at a orphans school. She would be over the moon if you gave her a 5 baht gold piece and she would be extremely happy to have that dinner at her favorite noodle stall. 3,000 baht on roses. Give her the money.

Go to Byoke Sky Building. Nice buffet restaurant on the 74th floor. Thai price in 470 baht/person. 940 baht/person foreign. If your girlfriend is thai makes sure she buys the ticket unless you can speak thai, otherwise you will have to pay the foreign price. Good atmosphere and can see the whole city. Enjoy

I have to agree with gotlost here.

Wat, gold, cash, noodles

I know many Thai women to whom gotlost's birthday plans would not appeal, and no, they aren't westernised.

That said, if you take your gf to a hi-so kind of place and she is a simple country girl, she could feel very uncomfortable, so choose your spot well.

Actually, I did that 2 years ago. I asked her where would she like to go on her birthday. She said she had always wanted to go to the Chrystal Grill buffet restaurent. Its on the 82nd floor of Baiyoke, but nevermind.

Later I proposed on the observation deck on the 84th.

This year we took a dinner cruise on the the river. Just perfect...and very romantic.

Get her two chickens and a pair of tesco flip flops. ( 250bt ) If you're the same size feet as her , you can share the flip flops, and have a chicken each. Win win.

Take her to the ATM machine.

Seriously though, how long have you been together?

Judging by your cynical and un-original remark I'd say you have been shafted a few times too many.

But then, considering you don't even bother reading OP's post and title either that does not surprise me.

They have been together 2 years, smartass.

You and Larry should get on famously in the Biergarten or some such and bitch about gold diggers.

I agree with Got Lost but I think you just need to be aware of that as far as your own expectations are concerned.

That said, I am sure SBK's comments are correct but I doubt many Thai ladies will share your level of enthusiasm.

That said, The suggestion for the Baiyoke Sky is spot on. I don't like buffets but this one is excellent in my opinion, the views are first class and you can have a drink the 85th? floor bar afterwards.

That said, if I am lashing out on 100 red roses I would actually expect to stay in all night (if you know what I mean) with a bottle of wine, strawberries, cream, maple syrup, leg-straps etc

I have never been shafted by a Thai girl, reading stories on here is enough to keep me on the straight and narrow.

The cynicism I also learnt from here through all the negative posts and responses people post.

I apologise EvilDrSomkid and to the OP and hope that they had a nice time with their girlfriend :)

I've been to and done all the places mentioned above, at one time or another... And it really depends on the tastes of the lady involved and your budget...

--The buffet at the Baiyoke Sky is Ok... the food is pretty good for a buffet, but the setting is anything but romantic, more like cafeteria. And at night in the restaurant, the windows reflect inward like mirrors, so forget taking any photos that show the city skyline outside.

Upstairs, the circular observation desk is completely enclosed in a heavy metal mesh grill that you have to look thru and is always in the background for any photos. Not ideal... The bar nearby is so-so.

--Vertigo at the Banyan Tree Hotel is a lovely outdoor rooftop venue, open to the sky and clear view all the way around. That said, lately is rainy season at night, so you'd need to be cautious about that. And, even for just drinks, it's going to be expensive in the area of a couple thousand baht, and much more if you plan to eat there...

--I love Chao Phraya river cruises and so does my wife... Just pick one of the good ones, not one of the tourist ripoff venues... Several of the nicer riverside restaurants offer their own river cruises each night just for the regular price of their dinners, no extra charges involved...

If I tried to take my Thai wife to a noodle shop for her birthday, I'd quickly be a single man again.... Her tastes run more to American steak and Japanese sushi.... Don't ask me why or how... I have not the slightest idea...

Amazinglife,

Take her to Vertigo, on the roof of banyan tree at sathorn.

Yes, you can't go wrong with this venue.

Agree, it is one of the best for a romantic evening. In case of rain or threatening weather, you can always move inside to the Saffron restaurant which also has the most majestic views. A romantic evening is assured.

So because there are so many cynics on here you decided to become one as well? Can't you think for yourself?
