Brown Sugar (Namtaan Daeng)

Featured Replies

I read the whole story about this movie in a local newspaper the other day and wondering about the expat response on this, any one of you guys out there have seen it? is it worth to call it erotic ? if the answer is yes then I will be on my way to enjoy my first uncensored Thai movie

Don’t hold your breath skyaslimit! It will be so heavily sensor’d it will be about 5 minutes long and the only thing in focus will be the opening credits…….Good luck.

If you are into uncensored Thai movies then I suggest you get hold of a copy of 'Bon Na Ya'.

Proof positive that just because a film can be made, it doesn't mean it should be made and too that censorship is not always a good thing.

Thai Erotic Movie to Debut Late August

UPDATE : 28 July 2010

Thai film 'Namtan Daeng' or brown sugar is set to find a new horizon for the Thai film industry as the directors claim the motion picture is erotica, not pornography.

Under collaboration between six Thai directors, an erotic movie called 'Namtan Daeng' or red sugar, features six stories about love and sex.

Created by Sahamongkon Film and Baramyu production houses, the movie has three separate parts. The first is entitled Raktongloon, featuring two new actor and actresses and directed by Sat Tancharoen.

The second story, directed by Panumat Deesatta, is called 'Sopeni Bon Tiang', and features Prakasit Bosuwan and Patsawipit Son-akkarapa.

The final story, directed by Kittiyaporn Klangsurin, the only female director in this film, is Prattana and features Warin Yarujnon and Lakkana Wattanawongsiri.

The motion picture's adviser, Pratya Pinkaoe, affirmed that the film will offer a real erotic experience for the very first time in Thai movie history.

Executive Bandit Tongdee insists this film is not pornography.

Meanwhile, actors and actresses said they felt a lot of pressure during the shooting of the film, but in the end it was a success thanks to to everyone's good spirits and determination.

They added that they will accept all comments about their work, good and bad.

'Namtan Daeng' will be released August 26 across the country.

Apparently it was only released last Thursday.

It has a 10 minute female masturbation scene in it, uncensored.

That's got to be a good thing however it's shown.

The actors are certainly writing themself into the Thai cinema history books.

But my question is any one of you guys have seen it yet?

"Splice" had some moderately graphic sex scenes, much to my surprise.  I guess the Thai government was correct when they said they were moving into a more liberal rating system.

So the new government censorship rules are, modest sex is OK, but Thai politics are still verboten??? ;)

I saw it on Sunday at Major Ekamai. There are quite a few sex scenes, bare breasts, a male bum and even, shock, horror, some pubic hair on show. The masturbation scene is, ahem, well acted.

Strange film, especially the second story. I get the impression that 'pushing the boundaries' was more important than storyline.

That's what I was talking about, I feel it strange if its pubicised that much.

So do you think its worth watching it?

I'm kinda shocked after watch the thriller actually, didn't quite expect this. I'd probably give it a shot for all that effort

It's not bad. I wouldn't make a massive effort to go and see it, but it's worth watching.
