Has anybody brought in a kit car, such as a Caterham 7, either built or in component form for assembly here? Would bringing the separate components in avoid the punitive taxes?

I have such a car in the UK that I am very keen to bring here......

It will be an expensive long drawn out process with the final outcome being a vehicle that cannot be road registered out here.

Westfields can be purchased here, not yet road registrable though, might be a viable option for a track toy rather than importing your own ??

Thanks Spoonman, that is depressing That said, I will be registering a company with BOI when I get here; do you know anything about personal import of a vehicle under such circumstances as my alternative would be to change the Cat for a Lotus Any input gratefully received.

Find a donor car along the lines of how Catreham's were intially made - so a Ford escort etc. Then with the existing chassis and engine you can bolt the new body on top. Retain the original reg plate and car colour and this helps as well as no need to apply for a colour change etc.

Easier may be a Bettle swap out to a 356 or spider, just needs a chassis shortening, but a more natural fit.

As I undersatnd its chassis and engines that need to match + registraion number etc, but i could be wrong and I would not bother anyway.
