New Or Second Hand Car Purchase

Featured Replies

Have noticed a lot of requirements/certificates that go with a car either new or used.

I assume:

Current rego

Full comprehensive Insurance

Noticed advert stating the vehicle had road tax paid tho vehicle has been off the road long time.

Can some one state what is required for ALL documentation relating to car ownership.

Cheers TC

New car

should be purchased from a dealer you trust.

After taking delivery it takes a while to become the legally registered owner, used to be max 90 days, recently law changed to 30 days. I know 12 people who payed cash for brand new cars, my friend a brandnew Fortuner 1,25 mill baht 4 years ago from a foreign car dealer in BKK, and the car still doesnt belong to him. It was financed and reg on financecompany, even if he payed it cash. Still going on in court

docs needed from you

copy passport picturepage/visa/permit to stay

certificate of residence issued by immigration or your embassy depending on where you live

cardealer can have a 1st class insurance set up before taking delivery

secondhand

registration book, for cars its blue. Check book is up to date on tax, page 16. If tax sticker is missing but ok according to page 16, its less than 100 baht for a new one

the car needs to be checked by DLT, and shouldnt be payed before check(identity and roadworthiness) and transfer approved. simply bring a cashier check issued in sellers/owners name to be handed over when ok

docs neded from you, as for new car
