As per the title, successfully obtained.

Flew to KL on a promo flight with Air Asia. Arrived KL at Air Asias hub (LCC terminal) at 4pm. Jumped on one of the many air-con buses to KL Sentral (8 ringit).

Arrived at KL Sentral at around 5.15pm.

Based on a previous posters comments I went to the monorail and jumped off at Medan Kuanku (2.30 ringit). Took the small walk to the Prescott Inn but was unable to get a room. The place was under some serious refurbishment. However, noticed the 'Tune' hotel across the street and booked in for two nights, no problem.

The 'Tune' hotel is a no-frills hotel where you pay for additional extras such as wi-fi, air-con etc. I took the air-con package for 24 hours (used it for 12 hours each night) although there is a big ceiling fan above the beds.

Wi-fi at 12 ringit for 24 hours. Its pretty fast. All in all the rooms are ok. Basic but the beds are very good and the rooms are clean. Total cost for two nights....180 ringit. You can also book online. It will be cheaper.

The location is great. Big shopping mall named Sogu just 5 mins walk away. They were having a huge sale so I picked up some real nice shirts and a fab pair of 'dress' shoes.

Grabbed a taxi from outside the hotel at 8.30am. Cost was 10 ringit. Arrived Embassy 10 minutes later..straight road really.

Queue of about 15-18 people. Gates opened at 9.15am. Handed out Visa forms by the security guy although the forms on the Embassy website are exactly the same. I got mine from the website so I was all prepared.

Door opened at 9.30am and I got my queue ticket from the machine inside. I was number 13 in line.

Documents I had with me were:

Passport copies of every page with a stamp on it. The girl only took 1 copy of my ID page though. The page was signed by myself.

1 copy of both sides of the wifes ID card. She signed and dated the copy. Also had a copy of the wifes passport but this was not required.

1 copy of the house paper (Tabien Baan?). Again, wife signed and dated it.

Original of Thai Marriage certificate complete with official English translation and signed and stamped by the MFA in Bangkok. The girl took 1 copy from me of all those papers which were signed and dated by wife and myself.

1 passport picture of handsome me attached to Visa application form.

Original bankbook which I updated on Saturday before flying out Sunday. I had copies of every page and she took them all. They were all signed by me. Balance showing was 101,988 baht.

I had NO letter request for visa from wife and it wasn't asked for. That was only because I forgot to get it though. I would take a letter next time if I had to do it again.

She only ever spoke two sentences to me. "Papers please" and "550 ringit and come back tomorrow 2.30pm"

She appeared to be very efficient. I was out by 9.55am

Back the next day. Arrived at the Embassy at 2.15pm. Queue of about 40 people. Gates opened a few minutes after I arrived. Doors opened at 2.30pm exactly. Nice orderley queue to collect passport with new 12 month visa inside. Out the door at 2.45pm. This Embassy is just so efficient!

Hailed a cab from outside to take me to the aiport. Haggled for a bit and settled on 65 ringit. Bit pricey maybe compared to the bus but my flight back was at 18.45pm and I didn't want the hassle of going back to KL Sentral.

Taxi took 1 hour. Arrived at LCC terminal and didn't bother queuing for check in. (I had 1 carry-on bag only) Went to one of the numerous 'check-in machines. Entered my booking ref and it printed out my boarding pass. Straight through Immy with no problems.

Kicked my heels in the terminal for a couple of hours then grabbed my flight. It left on time. Jeeez but those female air-crew are REALLY hot!

Arrived Bangkok, went down to the first floor and jumped in a public taxi back to town. Paid the 50 baht airport taxi fee plus fare. In my house at 8.30pm.

All in all......painless and efficient.

*Note*. There was a Brit guy at the Embassy who seemed to be having difficulties. He was applying for a multi visa based on marriage. Problem he had was that he had lost his original 'flowery' marriage certificate. He had an official copy of the record from the Amphur and also the MFA certified stamps.

I think the difficulty was that the Embassy staff had not come across this before and it caused some consternation. He was there again the next day. Still no visa but apparently the staff were contacting the Amphur and the MFA to confirm his 'story'. No idea what the final result was. He was upset but very calm, nicely dressed. I think he will be ok.

Also........at the Bangkok Immigration they were asking EVERYONE for flight tickets. No idea what for. I showed them my ticket from KL as I have no need of an outbound ticket. It was no problem for me but was causing some problems for 3 or 4 young European guys in the booth next to me. Backpackers. Perhaps Immy were looking for outbound tickets? I don't really know.

Welcome.

Don't forget to fill in the visa entry form to Malaysia whilst still on the aircraft.

Immy will give you a small square part of it back once you get stamped in. Its not stapled to the passport so take care not to lose it.

I'm about to do this same run in about 2 weeks. Just married and have never applied for visa before, so I have a few stupid questions about filling out the form: What to put for "Number of Entries Requested:"? 'M'? Do you get an infinite number of entries in one year? "Type of Travel Document" - US Passport? "Countries for which travel document is valid" - ? "Current Address" - Use my Thai address or the one on my ID? "Duration of Proposed Stay" - Should I put 1 year or 'life'? "Name and Address of Local Guarantor" - leave it blank? (I am assuming that 'Guarantor in Thailand' is my wife)

The stamp coming in is good for 90 days, but the visa itself is good for one year isn't it? I've seen some postings saying that by getting a stamp near the last day effectively gives you about 15 months in Thailand.

Thanks for the info.

Should I bring my wife with me, or would that somehow complicate things?

Does the 100,000 THB need to be in the account for a certain period of time?

Thanks again, your answers are VERY helpful.

If she is with you on the trip will not hurt at all but should not be required. No time set for money just that you can show access to that amount when making application for the visa.

going to KL this tuesday Nov 9 with my wife, to apply for my first Non-O Marriage Visa Multiple entry

Just have a few questions I'm stuck on about filling out the VISA form, my first time doing so.

-"Number of entries Requested" _M_ ?

-"Current Address____"

home address in the USA?

-I first arrived on Oct 2 on a 30 day then went to Cambodia on the Oct 29 and received a 14 day visa.

What date should I put on the form for my "Date of Arrival in Thailand___"? Oct 2 or Oct 29?

-"Traveling By____" I assume by "airplane"

- "Flight or Vessel Name___" should this be my Original flight into Thailand on Cathay Pacific, or my Air Asia Flight from Malaysia??

-"Duration of Stay 90 days " correct?

-"Date of Previous Visit__"

Visited Thailand on Aug 28 for 3 weeks

or my current visit before VISA run to Cambodia on Oct 2

-"Purpose of Visit :"

"Other visit wife or family " ? or ?

err, i see now that p'raps a bit of time perusing existing threads would have prevented me starting a redundant thread today asking the very questions that are comprehensively dealt with here!

great thread - good questions and patient well worded answers - thanks to the OP, all posters and to the peeps who took the time to post answers on my thread aswell.

Thanks Phatcharanan, great report, does anybody knows if the wifey needs to sign the photocopies on front of the embassy officer and if that's not necessary, what's the acceptable date limit for those signatures ( couple of days, 1 week/month) ? thanks :jap:

Wife does not have to be with you so obviously must sign early in most cases but the closer to application the better (as it is an attempt to prove you are still together as a couple).

Just thought I would update this thread with a newer successful non-O application.

Fronted up at embassy at 09:45 Wednesday, already about 20 people ahead of me, took a number and waited.

Number called at around 10:10, dropped docs as follows:

Form, photo, passport and copy of same, Thai wedding cert and copy of same, copy of her ID card (front & back) signed but not dated by her, copy of tibian bahn (blue book) signed but not dated by her, copy of Non-Thai tibian bahn (yellow book).

Handed back the orig wedding cert and after handing over 550 ringgits, given receipt. Exit about 10:20.

Went back next day around 14:30, got in the queue and about 10 minutes later, given back passport with 1-year multi Non-O.

Note to first-timers, make sure you take BOTH tickets with your call number from the machine when you push the button as one part goes with your application and the other part is stapled to your receipt for collection.

Nice little visa office with great air conditioning unless someone leaves the friggn door open! Better to have the form filled in before you get there (I used the one downloaded from their website) as writing desks are badly placed along the walls and can get a bit crowded. Oh yes, bring your own friggn pen!

The bank book showing minimum 100k IS required. States same on the KL website.

NanLaew probably just forgot to add that.

Yes sirs, you are correct. In my euphoria I omitted the original and copy of the bank book. He flipped it open to the latest balance page... all 101,000 baht and gave it back.

Sorry for the oversight ladies & gents.

just back from successful application for the non imm "o" multiple entry

no sweat - follow the info in this thread and you're sweet.

regarding showing 110k in your thai bank account - remember to include not only the last page showing the balance of your account, but also the first page showing the name on the account - perhaps all pages would be better.

thx to all posters

Hi,

All posters seem to refer to getting a 1 year multi entry. I am just about to apply for a marriage visa, I intend on getting extensions, thus not having to leave the country every 3 months. Given that's the case I should only apply for a single entry and then apply at immigration for 1 year extensions thereafter, is that correct?

Advice much appreciated.

Posted

If someone could post a link to the Thai embassy KL website as cited previously that would great also, or more simply, just a link to the form that I will be required to fill in, that would be very much appreciated.

Posted

And a single entry non immigrant O visa should be available from any Consulate with the proof of marriage/id card/home register proof.

Posted

If you meet the criteria for a one year extension than there is no need for a multiple non-O.

My situation is such. I got married earlier today. I arrived without a visa, just using the 30 days.

Atm, I have less than 400K in bank account, so I won't qualify for that minimum 2 month period.

I am not sure I am following you correctly. I do not actually need a visa? If I fulfill the requirements as per: http://www.thaivisa.com/304.0.html

And I can apply within Thailand?!

Sorry, bit confused now. I was under the impression that after getting marriage docs I had to leave the country and apply at a thai embassy for a Non Imm O marriage visa, and then apply at immigration nearest my home for yearly extension of stays with 90 day reporting

Posted

If you do not qualify for extension of stay you can not obtain extension of stay or obtain a change of entry within Thailand. You can obtain a non immigrant O visa from a Consulate with the marriage proof and on that entry if you later qualify for extension of stay (40k per month income or 400k in your name bank account two months) you can visit immigration prior to entry permitted to stay expiration with wife and normal paperwork to extend for one year using TM.7 and paying 1,900 baht.

Okay, Thanks for the additional info. I think I have this clear, but just to be absolutely clear.

If I had deposited 400K+ 2+ months ago, despite being unwed at that time, I could have simply arrived in the country with the 30 allotted days and as soon as married, I could have then applied for the extension of stay without having to ever had acquired any visa? In the future, I can also do this, just make sure all bases are covered (mostly the cash in bank in advance...)

As it stands...

My best course of action is:

Go OS, get single entry (Cheapest) Non Imm O - Marriage visa for 3 month, make sure I fulfill all relevant criteria for extension of stay in advance (ie; 400k+, 2 months+), then anytime before the expiration of the 90 day single entry visa, apply at immigration of an extension of stay.

Thanks again for the very helpful advice and patience.
