There may be flights direct from Phuket to Korat or Ubon with a regional airline (I've never done that journey) but if you are plane/training it via Bangkok then the overnight sleeper leaves around 9-9.30pm from Hua Lampong, if you fly into Swampy take the airport express bus into town and jump on the MRT and take it to the end of the line, there are several flights a day from HKT-BKK so unless you want to, there shouldn't be a need to stay overnight.

I live in Sisaket and in the days I used to fly up country I'd go to Ubon and the drive home from the airport was about 45 mins, but my Mrs is the Stig. Our house isn't too far from the Sisaket/Surin Border so I can't imagine a Taxi/Train ride being that much longer.

Sorry can't recommend any hotels in Surin.

3 x a week Air Asia fly from Phuket to Ubon. Tuk Tuk or motorbike taxi from the airport to the bus station for 120 - 150 baht then jump a bus to Surin (leaving every 1 - 2 hours would be my guess)

Just make sure they do not stick you on the roof as in India. From the railway station in Surin to the Surin Majestic is only about 6 blocks.

Hotels in Surin

I would suggest that the Majestic Hotel is the best if you want a pool, second best is the Thong Tarin. 3rd Petchkasem Hotel.

If you just want a nice room in a central location, I would suggest the Majestic Twin (its only about a year old, so great condition&value too)

If you want any other info, I will be happy to help by PM.

I think Farang Connection,Surin and Ryans Resort, Prasat both do tours. Its against forum rules to post links (I think)

Maybe you can google them and contact direct.

It will take you the best part of a day to get from Surin to Angkhor Wat! A day trip is not really on. Most people recommend a couple of days minimum to stay in Siem Reap and tour the Wat

VERY TRUE

You need 2 or 3 nights in Siam Reap(SR) IMHO, that way you can have a very busy day scooting around the Ankor Temples and explore/relax in SR too.
