Problem With Land-Transport To Bangkok ?

Featured Replies

I just heard a buzz, can anyone else confirm, that heavy-rains have caused floods disrupting/closing both the railway & road-transport between Chiang Mai & Bangkok.

Also if super typhoon "Megi" (cat.5) holds her present course we may get even more rain later to add to the problem. I sure feel bad for all those people south of us and counting my blessings up here.

AP report, in another thread, that "The State Railway of Thailand halted service on all lines that serve the North & North-East on Sunday night because of flooded train tracks. Service was partly resumed on Monday morning".

The flooding-in-Khorat thread also reports the Pasak, river running through Ayuttaya & Lopburi is now at a 30-year high, hope these rains keep clear of us up here ! :(

Typhoon Megi is project to hit land fall southwest of Hong Kong.

Incorrect on Highway between Chiang Mai and Bangkok being closed both highway 11 and 1 are open on the way to Bangkok. Nakon Sawan is not I repeat not Korat..

Having just returned yesterday from three days in Nakon Sawan, I can assure you that the situation is very serious, and that the main highway south of Nakon Sawan is indeed under flood water. However traffic is still getting through...just. I had three days of constant rain while I was there, consequently all the back sois in Nakon Sawan are under water. The river is well up there, but no present danger of spilling over, but it's still raining there, and the run-off has not been felt yet.

Rail services from Bangkok to Chiangmai are still running as of yesterday, but experiencing massive delays.

A friend that took the morning train to Bangkok yesterday was still on it at 23.00hrs last night!!

State Rail Road is reporting as of this morning threw the Nation that Bangkok to Chiang Mai stopped but Nakon Sawan to Chiang Mai train is operational. Also highway 1 ,11 and 32 open as will as Highway 2 from 2 Bangkok to Nong Khai.. highway 24 from from 2 to Ubon underwater but vehicles are getting threw.

I'll be going down in that area and across 24 in a couple of weeks the water should be down but the damage will take some time to correct. This was not a normal flood but I wonder how much this may help the government on their plan to build that new dam in the area?

No problem at Nakhon Sawan. Drove at the highway there yesterday.

Drove at the highway? I returned to Chiangmai yesterday, and yes the highway was open, but down to two lanes south of Kampangphet due to roadworks for approx 50 Kms, South of Nakon Sawan had flood water on the road. Only relating what i saw.

Yes there are roadworks going on but I did not notice any flooding apart from the usual wet road when it rains a lot (which it did).
