Has There Ever Been A 2006 Aveo Cng Model In Thailand ?

I think its all in the title but here it goes:

I'm looking at buying a second hand aveo from 2006.

The person selling it said its an CNG instalation done by Chevrolet.

It has the CNG writen on the back but i'm not sure about it all.

On the Chevrolet site I dont see any Aveo's with the CNG option only the bigger Optra's have it.

If anybody knows anything about this please let me know.

Thanks a lot

Hi,

My wife has an Aveo and insists that while Chevrolet have never sold a factory-fitted NGV Aveo, the system can be retrofitted by a Chevrolet dealer (or anyone else for that matter). The 2006 car you looked at would have been sold with a standard 3-year/100,000km warranty (which ever came first) and the owner could have purchased an extended Platinum warranty anything up to 5-year/200,000km (unlikely). You'll have to check this by asking the owner. If the NGV system was fitted during the warranty, even by a Chevrolet dealer, the warranty would have been voided. The system should have had a safety-check certificate and this may state who fitted the system.

I've no experience of running a car on NGV but there are some pretty heated debates in the TV Motor forum about NGV and the damage it may cause (high running temperatures, extra weight on rear axles etc). I think the CNG Optra (factory-fitted) may have had some of it's crucial components altered or modified to stand up NGV running, whereas the retro-fitted Aveo you're looking at probably wouldn't have had this, so you may be taking a risk with it. Best to seek the opinion of someone who's qualified before buying (ie. not me:) ).

There has never been an Aveo CNG from the factory, so even if it were arranged by the dealer it's still an aftermarket modification - however given its age it's out of warranty anyway. Definitely worth a thorough inspection, and I'd expect it to be dirt cheap ;)
