Is there any satellites/programming/scramble box setups that can get programs from the USA there? Hulu gets blocked last time I was there.

Thank you.

A Slingbox may be your only option for watching Live TV Programming.

There have been several threads on this subject, some quite informative, but I'm too lazy to search for them. Found one...

There are quite a few services available, maybe Google "USA TV ABROAD" or something similar to get a feel for service offerings. I found this one, http://www.getustv.com/ , but suspect there are quite a few. Not sure how well they work.

Locally, TRUEvisions, the leading cable/satellite provider does have several channels, like AXN, which show US shows, albeit a season or five late.

Maybe you could elaborate a bit on exactly what types of programming you are looking for; sports, network, news, etc. and whether you need to see these shows live.

i have been in thailand for 5 years now and have lived in bangkok and pattaya and now in phuket

if u r leasing or renting a condo or apartment or staying in a 1-3 star hotel u will have bbc and fox news and aljazeera

u will see some sports events off and on but nothing consistant

there r many old run movies on tv throughout the day and evening

u can however go to a bar or upscale hotel and see all sports events including american football etc

as to the packages u make reference to i have had no experience

my guess is that it may be possible in a major city but i think if possible very expensive and maybe not available at all

enjoy ur visit....CHEERS!!

Thank you everyone for your responses. A slingbox will not work for me as once I move to the states, family and friends will be not available. Also really do not want the internet for TV-I also have read you can get cards for computers to watch stuff from the states but not live.

I currently own a home in Phayao and I have read about the programs by truvision and because I like sports/golf/football live I believe that company supports that programming. Not sure.

Another option I have is keep my current DISH account open and watch my paid live programming via the internet but does not seem feasible due to bandwidth and limitations.

I live in Chiang Mai and had WiTV for a while in order to see some english language tv. The reruns of movies and serials were minimal with poor quality video and audio. The news shows, Fox is so contentious, Al Jazerra is not American tv nor are other english language tv news shows that were there, but interesting at times when channel-surfing.

What has finally satisfied me is the bit-torrent site, Pirate Bay. The shows are posted immediately after they are run in US, and I download for free all the time my computer is on in the background. I currently enjoy Boardwalk Empire, CSI Miami, Hi 5-0, Chase, Mike and Molly, Glee, Undercovers, Modern Family, Nikita, 30 Rock, My Dad Says. Last night I watched the UFC Lesner fight. Also, new US movies get posted before long, first on cam versions, then DVD. After a while here, my yearning for US news shows has faded. I get all I need of that from looking over CNN online.

Exactly what this poster says. I do the same but use a Hotfile account at 10 bucks a month. Download any show/movie I need and stream it to a plasma in the bedroom via WDTV Live in HD and to the LED in the lounge via a PS3.

Aside from Premier League Live Football and Thai TV it makes True fully redundant.

That's the kind of info I like to hear. Never used a torrent site because always afraid of spyware. The was one a long time ago, I forgot the name and was offshore, that you could get music, movies, etc using hookups to other people's computers and download their files which was illegal. No problems with Pirate Bay, I guess? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pirate_Bay

I would be living permanently in Thailand and should be no problem?

Now I remember that site and later many people who download stuff from there, they were sued and lost and had to pay huge fines-especially for music downloads. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazaa
