Can I Walk Around With A Beer In Bkk?

I can in some ways see the point oft he post about people walking in the city with no shirt, or drinking beer whilst walking along, for me drinking is purely social, I never drink at home, I will drink now and again in a bar with friends. So to see someone that can't even wait to get to a bar before having a drink sometimes puzzles me.

But I know we are all different so i guess that is the reason, horses for courses etc.

I think if it's after sunset and you're in an area with a few bars & pubs around it will generally be considered fine. And if you have a good people watching spot, and it's not in front of somewhere too "formal", it will probably be fine to pitch up and drink a few beers while sitting there.

Note that most parks don't allow alcohol to be drunk, or cigarettes to be smoked either.

I was once walking in the park near Chatuchak and got stopped by police as I was drinking out of a can. It was ok though when they saw it was a diet coke and not a beer.

Parks will be a problem. But elsewhere I don't think there's a problem as such. I wouldn't myself, but then I don't drink much anyway.

ARE YOU NUTS this is thailand...no shoes no shirt no problem......as for thai's being shy?? walk down to soy cowboy an see if you dont see a farang getting his knob polished in the corner by a shy thai gal..you n your church like values should go back to where the hel_l you came from you retard

Forget the legal bit. Just some life-style guidelines should help you here.

If you do not do it at home, why do it here?

Thais are basically shy, polite people. So.....

No public displays of affection.

Wear your best clean clothes at all times.

Always be polite and respect others.

Do not drink alcohol or be seen to be drunk in public.

Do not take drugs.

Most people (not just Thais) will respect you more if you were to follow these simple steps. B) It's not rocket science is it?

I suspect that you would not go into your local Wallmart without a shirt on and swigging a beer.

Good question OP.

Whilst I am at my humble home in OZ, every Thursday after work my brother and me will walk 1km to the local club for some ales and we take I can of beer each for the trip and we take one with us for the walk back. However, doing this is illegal here.

When in Thailand I like to walk to and from my destination instead of taxi/tuk tuk and have considered having a 'traveller' but didn't know the law so did without.

The OP had a simple question and somehow it has moved to sitting in a park without a shirt getting drunk.

I guess the way many of us perceive this behavior is in the same manner.

I don't know the law on this but I've been doing it for years and wandered past police many times and never had one even glance at the beer. Must be legal...

Yeah, it's odd how some people can take a completely bizarre angle on a relatively innocuous post...
