jackr
Prefer the night market in CR, but other than that and the temple on the hill, I can't see the point.
orang37
... snip ... zip over to Doi Mae Salong and visit Kuomintang tea growers, etc. Sawasdee Khrup TV CM Friends, Like to chime in and second Khun M's recommendations with a few other "scenic attractions." 1. about halfway up on the way to Mae Sai go west, and visit the mountain top temple of Doi Tung. Depending on weather, a wonderful view of the fertile Chiang Rai valley. There's a huge Royal Project near the summit. Can combine nicely with the journey to or from Doi Mae Salong. 2. if you are interested in Thai cultural history, visit the private "Oub Kham" museum in Chiang Rai where the owner, Khun Julasak, a direct descendant of the royal family of Lampang, has re-created an ambience of Shan princely glory, and has some fantastic, and rare, examples of certain distinctive styles of Phra Buddha Roob (Buddha images) on display. Google, or ask at a major hotel for directions or phone number. Khun Julasak speaks excellent English. Admission fee. 3. Of course don't miss the recently built (1997) stunning snow-white-stucco fantasia of Wat Rong Khun where the highway splits to Payao and Chiang Mai: designed by Thai National Artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. 4. for a totally "surreal" contrast to #3 visit the "Baan Dumb" (black house ... or Wat ? ...) created by Thai National Artist Thawan Duchanee Baan Dumb best, ~o:37; Edited October 29, 2010 by orang37
