MOSCOW, RUSSIA (BNO NEWS) -- Microsoft Corporation on Monday announced the establishment of a software development center near Moscow to undertake research projects in cooperation with Russia.

The software development center is one of the five areas of cooperation agreed by the Microsoft Corporation and the Skolkovo Fund. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Viktor Vekselberg, president of the Skolkovo Fund, signed on Monday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signaling the beginning of a bilateral cooperation.

The MoU contains a wide-ranging series of collaborative initiatives that are part of Russia's technology innovation agenda. The most important project in the MoU is the new center that will be located in the Skolkovo innovation hub.

The development center will focus on creating elements of Technical Computing, a new initiative delivering solutions for large-scale scientific, engineering, and engineering data analysis and simulation, and Microsoft Business Solutions.

Also in the Skolkovo innovation hub, Microsoft will open a technology center to provide collaborative access to IT technologies. This center will give companies working in Skolkovo a unique opportunity to test and adapt their solutions on corporate-scale IT infrastructure.

“We are pleased to welcome such an important IT player as Microsoft as a member of the Skolkovo project. The huge experience of this corporation, both in creation of cutting-edge IT products and solutions and in the organization and support of research, and its expertise and ability to create an innovative ecosystem, will be very useful for developing Skolkovo," Vekselberg said.

As indicated in the MoU, Microsoft and Russia will promote collaborative research projects cooperation with Russian and foreign universities and scientific research institutions. Microsoft will also support the creation of the technological university at Skolkolvo.

Finally, both sides agreed on the extended Russian innovative startup assistance program that will support startups at early stages of their development, while engaging market players in project investments and providing technological review for such projects.

In addition, the Microsoft BizSpark program will also be extended as it has already provided more than 1,500 startups with a technology platform and tools.
